ALDL Pinout

Hey Guys, Was not sure where to post this but thought in here may be the best.
Does anyone have all the pinout locations for the aldl connector for an 86 Camaro? What I am looking for is where does pin X on the aldl go to.

Re: ALDL Pinout

Assuming this is the stock '86 TPI ECM, pin E is for 160 baud and pin M is for 8192 baud. Will need a 10K across A & B to get the 8192 data stream flowing. It can then be removed.

I don't know if the 10K is required for the 160 baud.

Re: ALDL Pinout

I am looking for where pin a-m go to on the ecm and the car. I know a is a ground and b is the diag port that goes to the ecm (cant remember what pin on the ecm at the moment). Where do the rest of them go?

Gotcha', try this:

E ECM A8 data
M ECM A8 data
B ECM A9 diag
A ground
G fuel pump relay NC to pump
F ECM A7 TCC
C ECM A2 AIR to Port

Re: ALDL Pinout

Thank you very much, that is what I wanted to know.
Another question for you, E and M, are they linked together somewhere along the harness? or is it right at the ecm?

Most likely right at the ALDL connector. Less wire being used.

Why do both E and M go to A8?

Because A8 does both 160 & 8192 baud. GM decided that E was for 160 and M was for 8192 to the scan tool.

Is there a specific datalog tool and software that you can recommend?

Re: ALDL Pinout

Not to hijack the topic but the topic has somewhat helped me and may somewhat help as far as datalogging. Originally an '88. I upgraded to 8746 ECM. I am working on a conversion to 6395 PCM. I'm working on connecting with it at the moment using TunerProRT.
I'm confused as to why the cable I used with WinALDL at 160 baud will not work at 8192? If in fact the pins are tied together... if not can I an just use the same cable after connecting the two? They are both orange wires. I have a switched 10K resistor tied between A+B for some reason on the connector(I knew the reason about 1-2 years ago).

Tuner Pro RT, Data Master, WinALDL (160 baud only).

An '88 TPI and '88 TBI are different as far as the ALDL goes.

The TBI set up uses pin E only as it is only 160 baud. Don't need the 10K unless you want to put the ECM into ALDL diag mode.

The TBI ECM always sends data, it is uni-directional. An 8192 baud ALDL is bi-directional. Need to send a request before it will send the scan tool data.

So different levels of cable complexity is required.

Re: ALDL Pinout

Yeah, just saw the DIY schematic for the 8192 baud... guess I'll just buy a cable since making one would be more than it's worth in the end. I feel like I'm 100 years behind as far as techlology goes. Thank for the help.

Re: ALDL Pinout

Another question. I have tunerpro rt and the xtreme aldl from moates. It seems that I cannot get any data to come through. The serial line is in pin e and I either leave pins a and b open or put a 10k resistor across it and nothing. I also noticed that when i start tunerpro up, it says that there is no hardware found, but I go to preferences to check the hardware and it is there. Any suggestions?

Re: ALDL Pinout

There is a definition that is needed for connecting to the ECM/PCM. I figured that out the other day after posting on here. I'm not sure exactly where to get them but they have some on the TunerPro site. I just ordered all the parts to make my own 8192 baud interface cable. So I'll have to test my electronics skills and hope it works when i'm done.

Re: ALDL Pinout

I have the ads file to connect to the ecm. But for some reason it still wont. I posted in here as well https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...talogging.html That is the exact same issue that I am having.
