got me a sony laptop

Got the autoprom a while back , picked up a vaio tonight . Finally designated the wireless WEP or WAP crap not to mention firewalls here there and everywhere .
Now what ? I went to moates and downloaded tunercat , what else do I need and where do I get it ? Don't I need definition files ?
I don't have a socket adapter or any chips yet so I was just going to play with the software and maybe try to datalog .
Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do or try first ?

Yes you need the proper definition file to match the calibration of the eprom you plan to modify. As well, you need software that can monitor the ECM for datalogging. I use Diacom but I got it in the "old days". Today, there are a number of datalogging packages that are vastly superior BUT make sure it's able to monitor the ECM you want to datalog. Diacom can datalog a WIDE variety of OBD1 ECMs but some of the newer software are like TunerCat where you must purchase separate "monitoring definitions" for the particular ECM you want to datalog.

I suggest going back to TuneGuide, look at the particular datalogging software it mentions and possibly making a new post asking peope which datalogging software they use for the ECM you want to datalog and see what they say.

Thanks Grim Reaper , it's been a very long day of reading but I've learned allot . I downloaded a copy of tuner pro and kind'a looked it over , I also downloaded some definition files and EmUtility . I'm going to try and datalog tomorrow and see something other than money going out .
I'm sure you'll see me posting more questions in the coming days but I'll try and use the search function as much as possible . Thanks again
