auto prom emulation problems

auto prom emulation problems
For the life of me I can't get my emulation to work. When it does the engine runs then the ses lights up and the engine dies but sometimes it flickers and the engine starts to die but then keeps running since the rpm's are up. This will keep going till I shut everything down. I also can't get the upload current file to emulate to work either, it just says upload failed 75% of the time. I then shut the program down and unplug the auto prom and restart everything and 50% of the time after I plug the autoprom in and get the usb hooked up tone from windows I get hardware can not be found. I then reunplug the hardware and plug it back in and sometimes it will initialize , (just tried it again and no hardware found). Its like there is a bad connection somewhere. I am running windows vista ultimate and the latest tuner pro rt and the latest firmware. I did install my other hard drive with xp loaded and it dod the same thing, Any ideas???

Re: auto prom emulation problems
Couple things to try,
Make sure the port setup on the computer has the "latency" set to 1
Check that the port the USB is using is the one reporting the AP is connected to. This will ensure you know what comm port it "should" be on and you adjust the correct one.
Turn down the speed on the port to 115K or lower and see if that helps too.
Try different flow control settings too, just to see if they help or not. I run with no flow control but have used "Xon/Xoff software" too IIRC.
Check the emulation cable for any crossed circuits. I had one that the connector on the end didn't get crimped totally straight and caused some interconnection problems. Took me a long time to figure it out. I just cut the end off and recrimped it and it worked fine.
For the SES coming on,
In TP options, check that you are uploading $AA for the mask ID when emulating.
If you don't do that you will get an SES light as soon as anything in the bin is changed.
No chip in the AP when emulating, that causes problems.
Red stripe on the EMU cable going the right way and connected the correct way I imagine but had to mention it.
The driver thing I ran into with Win 98, had to do an "un-install" then re-install to make it "keep" the driver operating when plugging and unplugging the AP.
Newer win-duhs likes to use its own drivers unless threatened so be sure its not changing each time you plug in.
