Hi Guys:

I just got back from a business trip, and unfortunately I must quickly head out again tomorrow.

After giving the wife a quick kiss and having a bite to eat, I decided to come to my favorite web site and see what's been happening since I've been gone. I found a post requesting a VIN# so their scan tool would work with there SD converted car. ONLY TO BE STUNNED TO FIND OUT MY VIN# being openly given out without my knowledge or permission.

Now, I have assisted others PRIVATELY (NEVER AGAIN) in the past with my VIN# for SD F-body. BUT I never expected to have someone post MY VIN# on the Internet without talking to ME first. I guess it is my own stupidity for sharing information that I consider private and confidential to help someone and find out this info was passed down from person, to person, to person; UNTIL someone thought this was a MEANINGLESS VIN# and made it PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE. But why should they care....it's not THEIR VIN#.

While some of you may think "What's the big deal"? All I can say is, give me your VIN# so I can post it on somewhere on the Internet without your knowledge or permission and let you find it somewhere you least expect it. If that doesn't bother you, then please e-mail me your bank account, credit card and SSN numbers. Oh, don't forget your date of birth.

Regardless, any future requests for VIN#s or posting of VIN#s on this board are banned and will immediately be deleted.

On a personal note, someone sure ruined my faith in people keeping information private and confidential.

Ughh, I hate to hear that happening,
but as an alternative, just have or use the vin number with the last 6 numbers as 00's.
I would have thought someone would have done that rather then give out a good valid VIN.

What I did was just go thru parking lots, and got vins off of the right cars, but never used the actual serial number of the car (meaning changed the last 6 digits).

Glenn and Grumpy,

I've got a generic VIN that I will be happy to submit. This is a VIN that is in no way unique to any SD car out there. the genome of the VIN has been "generalized" for Diacom use, and probably other scan tools for that matter...all the non-important characters have been replaced with "x". Let me know if you will allow me to post this VIN, and sorry to hear about your VIN being distributed by someone.

Let me know,

Simply put ...
If anyone posts a VIN# without the owner's permission than that individual who posted the VIN# is subject to being banned from this board. Furthermore, their IP address will be traced and all efforts will be made to ensure that the individual cannot obtain a new username.

You may not like this ... but, I don't care. What I do care about is 'privacy' first and PROM programming second. Everyone is entitled to their privacy no matter how you feel about it.
