Need help figuring out calibration!!

On my 88 transam gta 350 TPI *built* motor i have a chip from TPIS that was programmed by them and an OEM replacement ecm which is the 7165 ecm. I need help figuring out the calibation (broadcast code i guess??) for my ecm. i burn't a stock ARAP and AUJM proms and both wouldn't allow the car to run, perhaps i just burned them wrong. but i reburned my stock bin onto the prom and the car ran ok. is there anyway to figure ou the calibration for this prom so i can edit it correctly or am i gonna have to learn how to hack it?

Did you disable VATS on the ARAP bin?
I don't know what AUJM is off hand but with ARAP, you most defintely have to disable VATS if you put it into a non-VATS car. Maybe AUJM is the same and that's why you had problems?

broadcast codes are not for the ECM, they are for the chip/prom itself.

the TPIS unit is not going to have a broadcast code. it's something they tweaked with. you may or may not even be able to read it correctly, sometimes the aftermarket vendors scramble the code in weird ways.

your best best is to start with the stock bin for your car, or the ARAP, and forget about the TPIS chip.

AUJM is transam version of ARAP. AUJN is camaro. both are the latest 6e releases for 89 F bodies. ARAP is the vette release.

i am going to try the aujm bin with the vats disabled.

With $6E, you'll probably also want to disconnect the cold start injector. Others leave it on with no problem, but it might make tuning the starting a little difficult with it still connected, but don't take my word for it, try it yourself.

you need to flip the fan bit, it's in the constants/flags section of your tuner program, I think it's called something like "cooling fan N/C switch" or something along those lines. maybe "cooling fan n/o input".

I thought it was just the corvette bins that had the fan on/off wired differently??? I've never checked the $32 stuff for that, though. I guess I'll do that now.

Correction, you *probably* need to flip that bit. I checked the bin's for my dads 88 iroc this morning (which we converted to 6e AUJM), and for that one, we DID have to flip the VATS bit, but did NOT have to flip the fan bit.

check and see if your fan is on when the engine is cold, and goes OFF as it warms up.

i figured out the fan problem. Since i swapped in a 64 TH-400 i am unable to hook up the VSS. The fan has a parameter that wont let it turn on unless the car meets a minimum speed requirement and that was 20 mph. I set that to 0 MPH and the fans run awesomely.

Everything is running great now with the AUJM and i swapped in the vette spark tables. Now to learn some fine tuning. anybody else have a problem getting Tunerpro RT to read the aldl? it says connected but it doesn't get any info from the pcm like it should. Datamaster works great though!!

that's quite odd. are you sure that's the case? otherwise, how would the fan run at a stopsign/stop and go traffic with the stock calibration? cars would be overheating everywhere.

it would be more typical that the fan is DISabled above a certain MPH speed (because the fan is no longer needed at highway speeds or 40+mph, the cars speed is enough to generate the needed airflow through the radiator, and the fan running can actually become a restriction more than it helps).

you might want to check into it some more. If the fan N/O flag was set wrong, then your fan would run constantly until things heated up a bit, and then it would shut off and you'd rapidly overheat.

If you left that and combined it with setting the fan disable speed to "anything over 0mph", the fan will always have an "off" output (as seen from the code perspective) that is flipped to "on" because of the incorrect N/O flag, which means your fan might ALWAYS be running. check it? If I had a '165/6E i'd test it on a bench real quick, but I only have a 730 bench setup.

it might be worth looking through a hac to find out what else is dependent upon the vss input. i am not up on 6E very much so I don't know how critical the VSS is to it.

I know it's there, I've used it. Let me load up tunerpro and look...

...

Looking in tunerpro, it's called "Cooling Fan N/O Req Input"

maybe your tuning software isn't up to date. It's definitely there.

I did some further checking, and the 20mph thing you talk about is the MPH for fan 1 IF the AC is on. That setting shoudln't even have an affect unless the ECM thinks your AC is on.

??

i searched for that but i dont have it... im using supposedly the most up to date 6e file and the AUJM calibration which is for 89 transam.

and i have a MIN MPH for FAN on w/ AC on and one that says MIN MPH for using fan1 Duty cycle.
