So who wants to take a newbie under their wing?

Long story short. I've been reading and reading and researching and researching but I've always been the kid in class that something doesn't click till I see a diagram or get a question answered in a different way. With that being said. I have a number of different things that have been, are being and will be done to my car/engine before May. I have invested in all the hardware and software I'd need to get started with a DIY prom. I'd like to ask you senior types to 1) help me understand what my mods will do to my car/engine and 2) where I should be looking in my code to see what could be changed and what the results would be. I have NO issues driving my car with a DIY mod but can't take the car out till it's all done of course and the 3 ft of snow we have here is gone (probably May) So in that time span I'd like to understand a bit more on DIY proms. Please contact me if you think you might be interested, thanks.

Start searching on your questions that u already have and go thru the stickies at the top of the page and read any that may not even apply to u to get a feel for whats going on.

Several great ones there about entry level tuning and what u need to get stsarted for as little $$$$ as possible....

lol far as getting under someone wing, the best thing i can say is when u start asking questions that u cant find doing searches and showing that u are moving forward and trying new things, the heavy hitters seem to come out in bunches lol Least thats how it worked for me....

U have questions u cant answer(find in searches etc) feel free to ask, ask something been asked 100 times, wont be much appreciated :-) Lots of great folks here and ive met least 6 or so of them now and we all share info, trade ideas etc...............one big happy(sometimes nto too happy) community. Just play nice and try new things

Anyone who gets into DIY-PROM but doesn't understand engines and the consequences / results due to particular modifications of these engines is doomed to failure.

Now, with that said, the following should make a lot of sense. It's easy to program PROMs. It really is easy. The hard part is knowing what to change. However, this really isn't that difficult if you understand motors and how they work. For example, if you understand "Acceleration Enrichment" then you won't have a problem getting rid of that off-idle lean bog that your car might have. But, if you have never heard of Acceleration Enrichment then you need to study. Acceleration Enrichment (among tons of other topics) has to do with engines. Most people mistake this for PROM burning being difficult. But, this has nothing to do with PROM burning ... it simply has to do with somebody's knowledge of how motors work. I've known people who have tried PROM programming and complained that it was too hard. Eventually I figured out that it wasn't that programming PROMs was hard ... but, rather, they had no clue how motors and engines worked. Well - if you don't understand how a motor works then you can't be successfull at programming PROMs.

I would suggest to any newbie to buy books. Buy lots of books. Read, Read, Read, Read, and Read some more.

Traxion said it best, thanks. While I understand engines from the standpoint of knowing how to assemble/disassemble I guess anyone can do that. I'm waiting for a few books to arrive actually one of them is called auto math, explains how to calculate VE and other figures. While I know how an engine operates mechanically what kind of books could you suggest for reading about the other factors you use while prom burning?
