TBI, TPI, LT1 computers...HELP!!!

please help! i have never messed with computers or injection swaps or anything yet, this is my first time. i have an '89 camaro that was originally a 305 TBI engine. i currently have a 350 from a '93 k1500 in it. i got a JET chip for the truck engine and everything plugged right in and works fine. now, i have an entire LT1 intake setup with all the fuel injectors, rails, etc. and all the means to put the intake on a gen 1 engine. i work at summit racing so i can get all the parts i would need at cost and have access to mills and lathes to modify the intake for a distributor and whatnot. i have read before about converting and old carbureted vehicle to TBI and it seemed really easy because TBI is such a basic system (if i recall it only uses 6 sensors to run) but i never got around to actually doing the swap so i have NO hands on experience.

does anyone know if i can run the injection independent of the ignition timing, like run a stand alone LT1 computer for fuel and the TBI computer for ignition? or if i can run the ignition and fuel stand alone together with the LT1 computer similar to an LS1 swap? i just don't know how i would "trick" the LT1 computer into thinking the distributor is the reluctor wheel??? i have seen this swap done on TPI cars and they don't even mention anything about modifying the wiring at all. i was wondering if i could just swap my computer out entirely with a TPI computer, repin the harness accordingly and just hook everything up and pretend it was a TPI car to begin with?

i am so lost...

Do you have an LT1 intake, or an LT1 style ram intake? The LT1 intake doesn't have a distributor hole. LT1's had an optispark on the front of the motor and their computers expect a whole bunch of pulses from their degree wheel, not just 8 pulses. You can't run two computers that I know of. You need one computer controlling everything. I would suggest going with a new EFI computer, or a TPI computer. I would also abandon the intake and get an aftermarket intake.

Alternatively, LT1's are cheap and plentiful. Get the complete engine and harness with computer. You will be far ahead financially!

As is the tbi ecm will not support 8 peak and hold injectors. IMO the best option since your modifying the intake for a coolant crossover and distributor is to go with a 1227730 tpi sd ecm. Another choose is looking at dynamic efi products the ebl mod for saturated injectors for the 1227747 truck ecm but that ended in 91, you may have a 427 wich can be port modded or one of the between years odd ball ecms. Or go mega squirt or fast , holley ect...

Re: TBI, TPI, LT1 computers...HELP!!!

its an LT1 intake from a 1997 camaro. i talked to one of my friends that does a lot of tuning briefly and he did mention about the tbi computer not being able to support mpfi. everything else he said went over my head...and after all that he told me "just put an ls in it" ha what do you mean "sd ecm"? i want to stay away from aftermarket controller such as holley and megasquirt just due to cost. i'm not scared of wiring or modifying things to save money i only lack the knowledge. what is the ebl mod? and port modding? do you mean that mod stopped in 91 or i would have to get a truck computer from a 91 or older? thanks

oh you mean a speed density computer...what would be the difference (in wiring, modification, tuning, etc.) between using a maf computer vs a sd?
