Edelbrock 3507 controlled by GM OBD1 ECM?

So I found a used Edelbrock 3507 setup used for cheap minus fuel pump (which is perfect since I already bought a Walbro255.)
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-3507/

What I'd really like to know is if I can convert this setup from the Edelbrock computer to a GM OBD1 ECM since I already have an Autoprom and everything I need to tune OBD1. My 80 Camaro is carbed, and my other 2 vehicles are factory GM OBD1 so it just makes sense to me to keep them all the same.

Also, does anyone have experience with this setup? Seems like it should support my 400-ish hp 355ci with my medium cam, but what if I step up to a more radical 406ci at 500-550hp?

Thanks for any and all help.

It should flow what ever the engine needs. 1000 cfm is a lot. As for converting, I dont know, you may want to search the fuel injection threads to find the answer. Me I would use what comes with it.

Re: Edelbrock 3507 controlled by GM OBD1 ECM?

TBI fires the injectors twice per revolution. TPI fires twice per revolution. If Edelbrock fires all injectors once per revolution it prob wont work. Your stock ECM wont be compatible. The Edel ECU will work. But I see if it requires no laptop but does use a WB sensor for feedback to its ECU. I supect the Edel calibration is a bit crude. are you aware you can use your GM ECU if converted to port fueling see.... dynamicefi.com

IF the TB has similar style TPS and IAC sensor outputs, and you use compatible injectors, I dont see why it cant be controlled with GM ECM from a TPI car.

I have a single plane EFI setup on my car but use an intake elbow with LS1 throttlebody and spliced in the LS1 TPS/IAC sensor wires. Works fine with factory 730 SD ecm.

Anesthes might know this answer. He's run just about every EFI system

Intake hardware generally doesn't care how often you fire the injectors - even if Edelbrock used a different staging setup, it should still work.

Edelbrock's bought their ECUs from all sorts of different places. Some of their older systems used Link or Mototron ECUs - I think the 3507 would be an early Link setup.

I may have misspoke I assumed you would use a 7747-8746. My error.

Assuming a TBI ECM then is there is a time factor here?. If the GM TBI ECU fires 2X per revolution are the port injectors "fast" enough to open squirt and close in the time provided considering they are firing twice.

Orr's suggestion to use a TPI computer is a good one.

Re: Edelbrock 3507 controlled by GM OBD1 ECM?

Yes, you can convert to a GM OBD1 ECM, or just about any ECM for that matter.

From the picture that set-up looks to have a Ford style IAC, which will need to be replaced with a Ford IAC to GM IAC motor adaptor block. I think Edlebrock even sells them. You may have to look at the TPS, it may not be a linera TPS, and sometimes the TPI style ('7730) ECMs don't like the non-linear TPS', other times it's not an issue. Seems you can usually tune around this, anyway.

Re: Edelbrock 3507 controlled by GM OBD1 ECM?

Like mentioned, it can easily be done. I used an OLDER PRO-FLO 3500 on a friend 87 Monte SS with a 406/700r4 combination. You can get an adapter to convert from the FORD IAC to a GM old/new style IACV. Accell, and a few other sell the aluminum adapter block to convert it. It worked and is still working very well. The main reason for doing this was because EDELBROCK will is VERRRRRRY reluctant to sell their wiring harness seperately, so I said SCREW them, and just used a 90-92 SD Painless harness I had. HTH's

BTW, you can use the GM SD ECM and Harness to run just about ANY engine.

For the 406, you will need 30-36# injectors. Started out with some 25# LS-1 injectors, but they were too small, and since they are rated 25# @ 58 spi, I couldn't get much more out of them. They worked for start up and very light driving, but THAT is it!!! The WALBRO 255 is more than adequate for that application. Good luck. BTW, PCM4Less provided the original tune.
