1985 Z28 ECM upgrade?
From my understanding the ECM in my 85 Z28 (TPI) is really at a disadvantage from a fine tuning stand point. Is there an easy upgrade (maybe one with memcal) that would be more beneficial for me? I have gotten used to tuning with an SCT FC3 (on my mustangs) and now I am sure the Z28 needs some help. Thanks!

Ok, so let me get the scoop straight. I grab a 165 ECU, a couple relays and a the wiring harness' to "cut out" the MAS burn off module. Make the appropriate splices for said harness. Re-pin the old wiring to the new ECU and im done??

Also, anyone know where to get a good 165 ECU? I see a few on ebay from $75-275 bucks. Some without PROM chips. I am pretty sure I cant use the PROM from my 85??

Re: 1985 Z28 ECM upgrade?
The main issue with the '7165 ECMs is data logging. They are a dual speed (160 & 8192 baud) ECM that sometimes works, and most of the time doesn't. Just need to search through the various threads to see that this is common.
As for using the '85 PROM in a '7165, no, can't do that. Will need to get a '86 through '88 PROM (MEMCAL) to match. '89 PROMs have VATS, so no go there.
