accel dfi gen 6 help

i recently purchased a used gen 6, but i cannot get it to communicate with the ecu. the Accel screen loads up fine but when i click on "edit ecu" it just says "waiting for ecu response" im fairly certain theres nothing wrong with the ecu and its just a plug and play operation. i checked voltage at the serial port connector and it has the 5 volt reference when the key is on. ive tried several laptops, even a dinasoar with windows 98. anybody have any ideas?

Re: accel dfi gen 6 help

Check your serial port settings on the laptop. this could also be a cable issue. did you get a dongle with the Gen 6

Re: accel dfi gen 6 help

what should the serial port settings be? ive tried changing the baud rate, but not sure what it should be. i got the ecu, cable, and the calmap on cd. ive tried downloading it from sights on the internet to both the c drive and to a floppy disk. the problem is deffinately in either my version of dos or in the serial port speed. i know the port works because its the laptop my friend uses for the FAST system in his camaro, but that runs from windows, not dos

Re: accel dfi gen 6 help

I've had problems with the laptop running too fast (even old ones). With my latest POS laptop, I boot the computer with a dos disk, insert a calmap disk after it boots, and it works great. I'm pretty sure this is a windows 98 laptop too.

Re: accel dfi gen 6 help

I am the person Matt bought the DFI from. I can Vouch this DFI is good! nothing wrong!! prior to my purchase, from my close friend, I physically verified functioning unit!
In order for calmap to communicate with the accel power processor, you need to be in windows " DOS Mode"
( IMPORTANT!!! FIRST VERIFY YOUR LAPTOP FLOPPY DRIVE LETTER) ( THIS LETTER IS WHERE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION NEEDS TO BE TYPED, MOST PC'S USE DRIVE LETTER "A", AS THE FLOPPY DRIVE ASSIGNMENT)

Matt, you need to, make a dos start up floppy. this is done by inserting a floppy disk, than formatting it. than, you make a boot disc, out of the floppy you just " quick formatted" . you have calmap on floppy now? you boot the 98 laptop with the boot disk, than a prompt should come up like " A\: " , When this come up, you remove the boot floppy, and slide calmap floppy in. Where the " A\: " is you type Calmap, immediately after, with no spaces, after " A\: " . It should look similar to " A\:calmap" it should start calmap that way. I am sorry, i thought you knew what 'DOS" mode was. P.S. I do not know if you have to type Calmap.exe maybe.

By the way, you did piggy back the power processor, right? I believe, the power processor plugs into factory harness, than you car ecm plugs onto harness from the accel power processor. let me know if you need HELP!!!!!

Re: accel dfi gen 6 help

S.A. Design books had just released a book on the DFI version 6 just about the time Acell released version 7. It was authored by Ray Bochazes (spell?). I would say from the way he talks it's clear he has alot of hands on experience. I bought mine on e-bay it's a vary good book, vary clear and detailed.

Re: accel dfi gen 6 help

That reminds me I was told to use windows 98 if at all possible and an older laptop something about the speed of the accel CPU. The little I know about computer hardware, let alone software can be put on the head of a vary small pin the room to spare. This was a response to an E-mail question sent to there on line help.
