removing knock sensor test

is there any way that you can remove the knock sensor test out of the program.
since i'm at the end of my solutions.

-my knock sensor sees knocks.
-i just changed my ESC module with a new 1
and still it throws out a code 43.
worst part of all is , it counts knocks but it doesn't pull the timing at those moments.

i just want that ****ing knock test removed from my ECM.


if it aint possible im parting out my car and selling it into pieces ( or bringing it to the crusher )
I'm tired of a car who keeps holding back bucase some ****ing program keeps pulling my timing back 15 degrees.
I'm already thinking about buying a civic just because of its drivability.

What ECM is this? What year vehicle? What year engine?

The 3rd gens with the 3.1l ECM has the knock filter (ESC module) as part of the MEMCAL. Did you replace the whole MEMCAL?

I replaced the esc module that is underneath the delco rotor.
car is A 91 CAMARO 3.1 v6

OK, that would be the ignition module. Not the ESC module.

The white board on the MEMCAL in the sticky I mentioned is the ESC module. Or in this case just the ESC filter as it isn't boxed up.

Your knock sensor or wiring is most likely the culprit. Grab your DVM and slide under the car. Remove the connector from the knock sensor (right hand side of engine in front of starter). Measure the resistance between the engine block and the sensor center pin. It needs to be around 3.9 K ohms (3900 ohms). If not it is bad.

Also check the wire & connector to the sensor. If in bad shape that too will cause a code 43.

With the key-on, engine-off measure the voltage between the sensor wire and the engine block. It should be 5 volts. With the connector connected to the knock sensor the voltage should be around 2.5 volts.

That is what the ECM looks for. That the knock sensor voltage is in the area of 2.5 volts. If it isn't then a code 43 is tossed.

thx, thats the kind of stuff that I need. will do that tomorrow morning ( got new knock sensor laying around here anyway )

OK, double check the resistance of the new sensor before installing it. If it is in the 100K ohm range then it is the wrong sensor. Needs to be around 3.9K ohm. Also give the wiring & connector a good look-see while under there.

just checked it.
around 3.8 -3.9K ohm.

good news, and bad news.
good, I found the problem. it is my knock sensor, it isn't even wired up.
bad news. there isn't any wire in that area that I saw to connect to the knock sensor.
can sombody tell me the color of the wire that I have to look for ?

Wire color is Dark Blue. Goes to pin F9 on the ECM.
