wow, let me just tell u i like electrical work, but this is killin me, i've been workin for 3 hours just getting the old computer/harness out. i have a 90 gta, my old 84 had 2 harnesses, ecm and IP cluster, take the ecm one out and leave the other one, nice nice. this one has everything run through the same wire loom taped together, BRAIDED(bunch of girls workin at gm in 90) and just one big hassle.

looks like the VSS goes to the ecm first, that hurts, how do i hook it to the dash speedo? every car i have the speedo doesn't work is this going to be the same thing?

anyone done this on a 90 bird? any help would be apreciated!

To get the speedo and cruise (if present) to work find a 4-OUT BUFFER box from the nearest recycle yard. The TBI 3rd gens along with oh '88-'91 (or-so) Caprice's. Yellow or white box, has 4-OUT BUFFER on the label.

Wire current VSS in, +12 ign pwr & ground, has 4 outputs, run correct output to speedo and cruise. Of the 4 outputs 2 are a 2004 PPM and the other 2 is at 4008 PPM. Cruise gets the 2K PPM and the speedo gets the 4k PPM signal.

Up under the dash, about 4x4x1" in size. Usually easy to find as they are right out front (or to the rear of the vehicle of the under dash portion).

Possibly. I am not that familar with that vehicles VSS setup. If the original '749 buffered a 4-pole VSS signal from the transmission sensor then fed it to the speedo & cruise, yes, it should work.

The 4-OUT BUFFER is/was used in vehicles where the ECM did not buffer the magnetic VSS attached to the transmission.
