do i need my computer anymore?
last nite i was cleaning out the engine bay getting her ready for the 383. Do i need the wiring haress and computer anymore? It is a carb'd 383 backed by a t-5 till i get a Tremec TKO for it. I removed the air conditioning, cruise control and all emissions. i took the ecm out and was pulling the harness out when i saw a part that goes up into the dash. I was too lazy as it was like 2 in the morning to take it apart to see where it went. And i also didnt want to pull it apart to take the harness out if i will need it. Any suggestions on what to do about getting rid of the harness and computer? Technology has no place in a car in my opnion lol. thanks in advance for any help

You need to trade for a horse and buggy.

When 'it doesn't work' that's just a great oportunity to learn HOW it works so I can fix it.
Once I know how it works and can fix it if it breaks, I don't give a hoot if it quits working because I am in command of the technology.
You can be to.
But if you run away from it, you never will be. That leaves you in a position you really don't want to be in.
The technology on these cars is not rocket science. Buy some books and start studying. You can do it.
They are pretty simple, really.
All these guys on here that are working on these things don't have Phd's.
The sensors THAT REALLY matter can be counted on the fingers of ONE hand and have a few fingers left over.
The ECM normally works or doesn't work. Nothing in that box you need to know about... at least for a long time.
I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I may be the most tenacious when it comes to hanging in there to learn something.
Give your self a chance. You can master the technology.
Good luck whichever way you decide to go.

Tony, what kind of iginition are you using? If your not using the stock quadrajet and the distributor is a vacuum distributor that doesnt utilize the ESC (electronic spark controller) then you'll probably be fine. Actually the quadrajet does run without the compuer just fine, it just won't pass emissions. Since you have a t5 the computer doesn't care about your non-existant torque converter. I would just move the harness out of the way and install the motor and fire it up without the computer hooked up and see if all the gauges and everyhing works. You'll probably be fine.
Good luck
