Best AC compressor recommendations please

Hey guys,
Am starting to drive my 88 IROC more and more. Car sat for a while (garaged and air conditioned) but am assuming freon leaked out. Compressor is not kicking on. I tap with hammer, it spins for maybe one or two seconds then stops. Am confident the compressor is shot (believe it's the original). I know it's a pressurized system, so i put some freon in it and still nothing. Am looking to replace the compressor. Which one is the best on the market? Other than replacing the O rings, any other suggestions on replacing items?
Appreciate any insight. It's been converted to 134 FYI.
Thanks

If the refrigerant leaked out, chances are there's air in the system that needs to be removed before refrigerant is put in. Are you sure there's nothing in the system?

First step is to sniff out the leak(s), if any. If you'd rather throw parts at it, start with a compressor and receiver/drier and whatever seals that are disturbed during the install. Draw a vacuum and if it holds, you're good for a recharge. If not, keep replacing parts (which get $$$ real fast.

Frankly, I would have first have the system assessed by an AC shop. At least you'll have a better idea how deep the water is.

To answer your question, I would go with a new compressor. Rock auto has new Delco compressors. Still, they're probably made overseas. You'll need to replace the receiver.drier too. Don't leave air in the system. Vacuum it down ASAP after the component replacement.

if you are replacing the compressor i would upgrade to a sanden style. All around better and they make brackets to fit in place of the r4

If you need a set of the brackets, I have an extra set w/all required hardware to swap to a Sanden compressor.
