Did the v8 cars use a dual fan set up or just a single fan like in the v6????

depends on year and engine. V8 RS and some of the other earlier V8's were single fan. TPI models came dual fan. I am sure the history board can give you an even better breakdown

Re: V8 dual fan or not??

Depends on the year...
1987-1992 cars = dual fans
Not sure if it was V8 specific or if all the 87-92 cars came equipped as such.
Anyone?

Re: V8 dual fan or not??

the car is obviously a 91 RS and it went from a 3.1 tpi to a 283...currently it still has the v6 single fan in it....were wondering if that single fan is enough to keep the 283 cool so no damage is done to the block...it has a v8 radiator in it.............should i put the dual fan in it or leave it the single fan??

not sure whats best and i always turn to you guys on here with all the knowledge! tgo is a lifesaver!!

It'll be fine. I run a single electric fan on my 84 with a 355. No issues.

Re: V8 dual fan or not??

The key seems to lie in the air dam.
I just put a 4th gen air dam on my car and the fan only comes on if I sit in traffic for 10+ minutes. Moving almost at all will cool the engine. I should mention that I do have a champion aluminum radiator.

Re: V8 dual fan or not??

thanks for all the help.....the bearings seem to be out if the stock v6 electric fan & i dont feel its cooling the car enough.....would anyone recommend or would it be a good idea to put a dual fan on it now since it needs replaced??? stick to another single fan?? not sure what the best route is....the heat the past couple weeks havent helped matters either.

Re: V8 dual fan or not??

If the motor is bad, just replace it, in like kind.

The car worked PERFECT when it was new, with everything just like it was built; will work PERFECT once again, when anything worn out or broken is fixed.

Re: V8 dual fan or not??

dual fans also don't just run in tandem - they are independent and the secondary fan is controlled by certain conditions and the ecm is the controller in that situation. don't know a lot about the ecm's and chips, but i would think yours would have to be set up for such if you want it to be controlled in that manner, as it should be. but that is not to say you can't just hardwire one in and control it with a switch... what's really neat is having lights on the dash that will indicate when your fans are actually running so you can monitor them...
