Hey thanks everyone in advance...had and repaired a pinhole in one of my heater hoses, but my car still runs up to around 220 at idle at a long stoplight, in a fast food drive thru, stuff like that. It's an 87 GTA 5.7 all stock, 103k. No leaks from waterpump, and now no leaks anywhere. I'm certain it's one of the electric fans, because every time I look at them, they are not moving. Dual fan set up, which is the primary fan? passenger or driver side? And how do I do failsafe checks to see? If I've left out any pertinent info, just remind me and I'll post it up. Again, thanks!

Primary on the left. Turn on your AC and your secondary fan should turn on. Otherwise the secondary doesn't turn on until about 235F.

At this time of year with stock fan setup, I'm not surprised it's going up to 220°. Since your car is an '87, I believe it won't turn on the passenger fan by A/C high side pressure alone. I believe it only turns on based on coolant temp.

A 200/185° fan switch is a good idea for anybody.

Where cam one get one of those fan switches? My car was rigged up so both fans come on when the key is ON, so they're never off.. I haven't gotten to fix it yet. Plan to have it ran to a switch to the relay so it qill still work on computer settings but I can flip the switch and turn them on too.

My car will only hit about 160-180 in winter (180tstat) and in summer it will go to about 220-230ish when at a stop, while driving its ok. I haven't let it go above 230 so I don't know if it would or not. I think the ac condenser is blocking airflow because the fins are pretty messed up.. but I would like to get that switch

That's about right. That's what it did when it was new, or for that matter, what new cars today do.

Sounds like it's working fine, to me.
