Getting A/C working after 15 years

The A/C has been out of service for the last 15 or so years on my car due to a bad wire I traced down while rebuilding my engine last year. I am ready to get it to work again but am unsure about what to do about the A/C compressor being it hasn't been used in such a long time. I will be converting over to 134a and was thinking about replacing the dryer, o-rings, and orifice tube but I'm kinda stuck with the compressor. It still turns over by hand and I tried jumping it for a split second and it spun over but the seals are questionable I would think What should I do? Thanks in advance

If it blows air when you turn the AC on, then compresser should work. All the things you mentioned sounds like a good idea. Just make sure you get the right oil for it. A lot of threads on this, due some research before doing it. I just recharged mine, really don't know how long it was not in use. I bought the car almost 2 years ago. Mine has a noise sence i charged it. Funny thing is a guy next door to me has a 2012 new camaro and when he turns on his AC it makes noise too! lol I think it is a chevy thing. haha

Re: Getting A/C working after 15 years

I just got mine going about 2 weeks ago, mine hasn't ran in like 20 years. All I did was go out to napa and got my r12 oil, green o-rings, and a new dryer, oh and a new orfious tube. I pulled all the lines off, cleaned them up, took my new prints and socked them in some r12 oil, put them on each coupling, installed the new tube, removed ac compressor and added correct ammount of oil, reinstalled the compressor, lines going to it, reinstalled the high pressure line, then QUICKLY removed and replaced my dryer. Those dryers can only handle about 30 minutes of moisture exposure so you have to be fast

Re: Getting A/C working after 15 years

I guess it would be worth a shot. I have 3 cans of 134a that I picked up last year but I still have to get the oil will probably rent a vacuum pump from Autozone and buy some pressure gauges from harbor freight so I can fill it myself. I've done all the work to my car myself to save on labor so the A/C should be no problem. Thanks guys hopefully I don't melt this summer last year was pretty brutal without A/C
