Any one know of a good fan
I am wanting to upgrade my stock fan for something that will keep my 383 cooler. I want something that is a direct replacement and can use my stock wiring. Anyone have any suggestions

Re: Any one know of a good fan
I have looked and they don't make a direct replacement unless it is stock. A 12 inch fan fits the best and of course CFM and amps is what you look for. I installed a 12 inch pusher fan in front of the condensor to help at an idle. I also installed a 5.5 inch pusher fan on the trans cooler for a total of four fans. I also just made an aluminum air dam that bolts under the rad support to replace the factory plastic one and that seems to help more than anything. The more air the cooler it will run.

Re: Any one know of a good fan
ANY fan can use the stock "wiring" - they just won't have the same plug to connect to. Stock wiring uses a relay - bottom line is the relay supplies the 12v+ and the fan is grounded anywhere you like. So, any fan that fits in the space will work - just won't attach with the stock upper/lower fan mount - but you can leave the top "mount" in place, and use rad fan zip-ties to attach fan directly to radiator (better anyway to have fan right up against radiator where air can't get sucked 'around' the radiator - you want the air to get sucked through the radiator).
But, in my personal opinion, the factory fan wiring (ie the thermo switch in the head and ECM programming) is the main issue - they are set for such high temps from factory (to help reduce emmissions) that by the time the fans come on, it's too late to do much cooling. I always recommend an adjustable seperate fan controller where you can change the temps and adjust the cooling effect to satisfy YOUR engine rather than satisfying the EPA and their emissions requirements that GM could only meet by making the cars run too hot.

Re: Any one know of a good fan
well when I put my 383 in I went to carb and in doing so eliminated the ecm so my fan is currently set up to run whenever the key is turned on.

Ford Taurus "mod" is just using a Ford Taurus fan - they were a good size and flowed alot of air, and since one can be snagged at a local JY for cheap, alot of folks like them.
