Re: my fan wont turn on!!

will do...im gonna take pictures if it works so as to help out others who have issues like this...i have a dual fan set up i might try and wire it so only one fan kicks,i know one is just for a/c and my ac is junk and doesnt work anyway...so im gonna keep it to one fan and eventually get the a/c delete kit...if i do it tomorrow ill keep ya updated

Re: my fan wont turn on!!

Slayer ...

I think your 1st pic is CTS (Coolant Temp Sensor). The CTS has 2 wires, one yellow, one black.

2nd pic is Fan Switch - assuming it was in the head and not in the block. There is another thing, looks almost identical, but in the block - that is your knock sensor.

3rd pic I have no clue.

4th pic is a relay, but I'm not sure which one. I will tell you those connectors need crimped alot better than what they are - I crush the entire connector in the middle about 1/2 inch across. What are the wire colors to that relay (the original colors) - that will tell you which relay it is.

5th pic is your gauge sender for coolant temp - all it does is feed the gauge the reading, has nothing to do with fans.

Not sure any of that helps you - I'm lost on the V6 cars so I'm not 100% sure on the fans operation. But at the relay, you should be able to remove the connector for the relay, and jump one pin to another, and with key on fan should run - if it does, then you know fan motor is good, if not, might try applying 12v+ directly to the connector at the fan motor to see if maybe the motor is bad.

If fan motor runs, then you know there's an issue either with the relay, the fan switch, or the CTS. On a V8 car ... The CTS sends info to the ECM and the ECM turns on the fan based on this info, by sending a ground signal to the relay. The fan switch does the same - it sends a ground to the relay.

There's a ton of wiring diags here if it helps: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=19

And fan info here: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=36

Sorry I can't tell you more - like I said I'm no V6 guru. Good Luck!

Re: my fan wont turn on!!

I had the exact same problem with my 86 T/A, I replaced all sensors and relays and even the fan motor and still no luck. Went to Autozone and got one of those adjustable fan thermostat control relays with the probe u stick thru the radiator and now the fan comes on exactly where I have it set at ! A great fix for $30 , wish I would have done that before going thru the trouble of getting to and replacing a couple of those sensors..!

Re: my fan wont turn on!!

That's what I run - a seperate fan controller - and I love it! Not sure why anyone scrtews with the OEM wiring when those things are available, and so easy to install.

Re: my fan wont turn on!!

one other thing to check would be the power going to the fan. I had a bad pigtail/ wire harness and had 11.53Volts on the relay side of the harness and 2.5Volts on the fan side! I think the wire connections are overlooked many times. A simple check with a multimeter in a few key areas will help you identify your problems.
