Cooling Question

I recently installed a three core aluminum radiator along with a dual 12" fan assembly off a ford contour. At idle in 80 degree weather with a 160 stat, it will stay steady at 165, but on the freeway cruising at around 3300 rpm, it will warm up to 180 or so and after I get off the freeway and the motor slows down, it will come back down to 165 fairly quickly. I dont have my vacuum advance hooked up yet, could that be why it warms up a bit? With my old setup, a basic two core and mechanical fan, on the highway it was fairly cool, but idle it would warm up fast. I just think that it is weird to flip around like that.

Re: Cooling Question

Most folks would kill for a consistent 180 highway temp! I wouldn't complain.

You do have the air dam in place right? It's supposed to be mounted directly under the radiator, and cools everything at highway speeds (since fans do no good at highway speeds).

Re: Cooling Question

Im not complaining in the least, its just weird that on the highway it gets hotter than at an idle like I had before. Yes, the air dam is in place.

Re: Cooling Question

I think it's amazing that it reads that low at all - is this the stock guage? Have you ever checked with an infrared reader? I'm assuming that given your motor, you've got healthy headers and such making alot of heat.
