Re: SERIOUS COOLING ISSUES NEED HELP

Check the suppliers like Summit, Jegs, & Classic Industries. I think
"Jet" makes several ranges of sensor switches. Probably in the $15
buck range by now.

Good luck,
kk

Re: SERIOUS COOLING ISSUES NEED HELP

Ok outlaw, here`s 2 part numbers for you. The first is for the fan switch, not a relay. There is always a lot of talk about both of these as you mention but the part you need is the switch. Painless fan switch thermostat #30111, it comes on at 185 and off at 170. You should also replace the thermostat with part # EMP-300 is a 160 degree and EMP-301 is a 180 degree. If you call Summit(1-800-230-3030) they should have the parts in stock. Don`t forget to order a thermostat housing gasket and a tube of gasket sealer. Is your car overheating when driving at 35 + or in stop and go driving, sitting at red lights?

Re: SERIOUS COOLING ISSUES NEED HELP

Good catch there jayk2k3, double check your water pump part number. If you bought a Flow Cooler you may have gotten the wrong one. Camaro went to a reverse rotation water pump in `87 or `88 with the single serpentine belt. Anyway, check that part number again.

Re: SERIOUS COOLING ISSUES NEED HELP

Nobull, if you are having the same issues as Outlaw, check and follow the advice given in this thread. If everything in your cooling system is working properly, your car will run around 200-220-240 in traffic/stop & go and higher with the air on when it is this hot. That`s the way GM made these cars to run. If your car runs hot over 30-35mph, check your air dams, they are probably damaged or missing. The factory fan switch comes on around 222-225+. To get the temps down you can change the fan switch and thermostat, service your cooling system and if you are running a single fan you may want to think about going to a dual fan set-up with a 4th gen shroud. I`m just finishing up one for my `88 383 TPI. There is a great deal of in-depth information on this site if you click on "search" at the top of the page and type in "running hot or car overheats", anything along those lines will give you hours of information to read. Also, feel free to keep asking questions if you need the help.

Re: SERIOUS COOLING ISSUES NEED HELP

hey jim where would i find the info about changing over to the dual fan setup from a single fan. i have a after market radiator and a hand made aluminum mount that hold the radiator and fan at this time. The factory one was to thin for the radiator.

Re: SERIOUS COOLING ISSUES NEED HELP

There is a lot of excellent information and sometimes pics on this site of dual fan conversions. At the top of the main page on this site, click on "search" and type in "LS1 dual fan" or anything along those lines and a ton of information will appear. There was a post about 2 weeks ago about converting a thirdgen to an LS1 dual fan set-up with the LS1 shroud. It`s supposed to keep the car cool and is not expensive. You need a small space to do a little fabricating on the shroud and a few basic tools. The post has pics and it looks like a factory set-up, very clean. Do your research on this site and make a list of what you need and start checking prices. There are a lot of options from new to used. There is a lot of junk out there so watch out. Some of this sites sponsors are listed along the margins on this site and you can check out their catalog on-line and/or order a free catalog from them. It`s always a good idea to have some parts catalogs sitting around.
