Oil cooler sollution help

I've read a lot of posts and looked at jegs catalogue and Summit Racing for hours now. I don't know what to get..

My twin turbo installation is almost finished and I'd like an oil cooler and my question is what oil filter adapter I should use.

I'd like an adapter between the block and the filter, and perhaps it should have a built in thermostat (sounds like a good thing?).

What part nr am I looking for and what do you guys use and what works? Is there perhaps a kit I should buy with all installation hardware included?

Thanks
Anders

i have a aftermarket oil cooler on my car.

mine is a adapter that screws onto the engine block where the filter goes, and the filter screws onto it.
it has two lines from it that go out to the oil cooler.

in my 82, i didnt have AC, so my oil cooler was mounted infront of the radiator.

in my 91, its mounted at a angle infront of the drivers side tire. tucked up high, but it works.

now, if you intend to use longtubes, or you want to use the larger "truck" filter, you can get a oil filter relocation kit.
this goes on where the filter goes, and it adapts ALL the oil to go out thru the lines and back.
the lines then go to a remote mount filter housing, and then then goto your oil cooler.
this is the solution you need if you want to run a oil cooler with longtubes that dont allow alot of clearance.
but with turbos underhood i dont know how much underhood space you have left for that option.

i got mine as a complete kit. with hose, hoseclamps, adapter, fittings, ect.

Just for info.
The factory oil cooler on my car just runs coolant through it. Same setup where it mounts between the filter and block

I was thinking of an oil cooler like this kit (but with a bigger cooler).

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...17&prmenbr=361

That is Jegs part nr: 890-820300

It includes a thermostatic sandwich adapter.

I guess that the bigger is better for me when using these two turbos, and by using the termostat sandwihch element - the engine will always get to working temperature before the cooler starts to cool things off. Sounds good or?

What kit did you get? And do you know approx how much lower the temperature got?

On my old motor I ran an delrae cooler. it lowered the operating temps down between 190~220 deg. stock with the sandwhich cooler(water cooled-oil cooler) unhooked, temps were between 230~260 deg and possibly higher(recorded with a oil temp guage tapped into the pan) The cooler is a great idea for logevity. The oil temp will more closed match the water temp. In my new combo I'm getting ready to install a perma-cool 450hp rated cooler- the car should neverhave any oil temp problems with this set up. recommend a large cooler if you have alot of HP (over 300) or live in a hot climate. just be careful routing the lines(headers, moving parts-etc..) there is not alot of room, as you already have found out.

correction- Oil cooler for longevity-not logevity-can't spell

and the perma cool is about 40% larger than the delrae cooler I had- I expect that it will never get over 220deg even with extreme use. may keep the temps arround 190deg in normal use.

For engine oil, I don't like that style of cooler at all. Reason being, there's a larger pressure drop with the multipass style, as compared to a single-pass cooler with multiple tubes (i.e. parallel flow paths). Might be fine on a low RPM application, but not a good choice for a hot rod, IMHO.

For ATF or power steering, pressure drop isn't really a problem (much lower flow rate than engine oil) so multi pass is fine.

Also, I really don't care for the exposed fin corners like on the one in the link above. Seems like they're always either getting bent, or are scraping your forearms.

My favorite oil coolers are from Setrab or Mocal. Since Setrabs are made in Sweden, I'd think those would be readily available to you.
