ASC door decal question

I have seen a few pictures of the door decals that all seem to look like mine does.
I basically have a residue left from some type of tape that was over the ASC decal.
Whats the story with this? I am guessing something was applied that had no chance of surviving 3 decades?

Shipping tape?

Re: ASC door decal question

The letters that are hard to read provide the date that ASC modified your car to a convertible. Good to know if you are researching its history or trying to find out other info. Unfortunately, it is the only record of when your conversion was done that probably exists. Could be that your door was replaced sometime after it was originally delivered. Do you know if it was in a wreck sometime in its life?

It had some paintwork done on the right front fender & lower half of the passengers door, but otherwise still original paint at this time. Still has the tire size & weight decals with the matching VIN just above the ASC sticker so I don't think it was ever messed with.
I could have swore I saw other ASC stickers with that film residue over the top of it before, but to be honest I haven't paid all the much attention to it until now.

Thats exactly how my 89 is pictured above. adhesive dried up & clear tape is long gone. I suppose its fitting that the sticker is similar quality to the rest of the conversion parts
