Hi I just purchased new flip rods for my 1992 Camaro convertible I took the old ones off like 10 years ago so now I have no way of knowing which way they went on it looks like they can go on many different ways can someone please take pictures of the left and right for me
Its facing correctly in your pic. I modified my flip rods, but the configuration is the same. Forward facing bend is on the window side, rear bend faces the interior. Driver side is a mirror image of the passenger side.
Where did you find NEW flip rods?
Hey thanks for the pic and info They were broken when I purchased the car like 15 years ago and I took them off and never did anything until this week. I tried doing some searching first obviously on how The configuration is and only found like a three page write up on how to install them it was like easier installing a Hydro booster on a NASA spaceship!!! I purchased them from hawks. they were like 90 bucks.

Not to hijack...the second (from front) bow on my 1989 IROC Vert , does not stand tall, like the 3RD and 4TH bow. 2ND bow does not prop up the fabric, as the 3 RD and 4TH bows do. The second bow, has a rod on the DRIVER'S SIDE only, similar in appearance, to the round one , with a hand on it, in the photo above. The passenger side shows no evidence of ever having a rod(like the had touched one) .
Any idea what about my vert? It is a GM factory authorized Vert. Thanks!
CCOP: I felt mine were binding a lot when lowering/lifting the top. One of them was welded back together and probably not lined up correctly anymore, so that did'nt help

mikeceli: at the very least you need that missing flip rod. The top will jamb/lock/twist and possibly bend (if you force it) w/ out that rod.
Flip Rod. Is that what the pictured rod, made of "round stock" (with hand on it) is called? 84 1LE The frame is not drilled or tapped, for the passenger side rod. Now what?
Frame is not supposed to be drilled, its just a pass thru hole. One item missing in the "hand" pic is the other nut that goes on the opposite side after you pass the threaded end thru the hole. That and a couple of nylon washers (one for each nut).

To tell you the truth I have gone thru a number of them because they seem to bind as they seat at the back. My car has a glass window in it and I took the flip rods out and hold the 2nd bow up with my hand until it goes down about half way and I don't have a problem with the top going down correctly. The earlier convertible tops never came with flip rods.
My 89 has them. The problem with ASC is they made a lot of production variations, even mid year changes at times.
I've seen other pre 90s with them too. Maybe it's a late 89 variation.
The original top frame on my 89 did not have those flip rods.
The 91 top frame I swapped on does have the flip rods and it’s so much easier to put the top up and down

My '89 has only one flip rod. The passenger side apparently never had a flip rod. Thinking back on your 89, do you think TDS Aftermarket Flip Rods, would have made the 89 top go up & down easier? Like your 91 frame.

I don’t recall seeing any flip rods on that 89 top frame.If I could dig it out I’d check.
I do have the TDS flip rods on the 91 frame that’s currently on the car.I think the originals were bent cause the top didn’t have a smooth movement
