I made a deal for a 92 firebird convertible
My son's 84 project car has been deemed a parts car, because the state won't issue a title. Apparently the car was removed from the system as destroyed.
So I have been looking for another roller to get all the 84 TA parts. Today I negotiated for a neglected 92 firebird v8 auto convertible. I have to get some money together and go pick it up this week.
We are picking it up on Thursday
It will end up being maroon and black (84 ta appearance).
Thanks,
Chris

That's not a bad looking starting point for a project! How do the floors look?

Are you planning to clone the 92 parts onto the 84 body? Lots to do to get it running and appearance parts are not readily found (some are different on the convertible). Good find though and a good project!

My only concern right now is the side skirts are smaller on the 84 than the 85 up and may not cover the asc re-enforcement bar.

Making some progress on the 92 vert today.
1. installed 92 ws6 rear springs
2. installed 2000 ws6 rear wheels
3. new kyb rear shocks (budget)
Right now we are working on removing the transmission from the parts car. a few more bolts and it should be out.

Re: I made a deal for a 92 firebird convertible
found out my wheel adapters for the front wheels are corvette spec instead of fbody spec, so they don't fit.
also, my impact is not strong enough to break the bell housing bolts loose, so i am going to have to borrow a better one tomorrow.
later,
Chris

Looks like a fun project! Lots of luck with it!
I'm getting ready to make a deal on another convertible, not that I need 2 of them at age 68, but the one i found may be too good a deal to pass up, even if i just clean it up and flip it!

Re: I made a deal for a 92 firebird convertible
I now have the new driver side fender on the car.
I also have it skinned for a new top. my sister is repairing the headliner, so that has me held up on that process.
so today, I repaired the top radiator mount, because it was cracked and zip tied. I used my plastic stapler to fix it.
I also cleaned blew the grass out of the space between the condenser and radiator. then I installed a derale fan controller and fixed a previous owners rewire of the fans. Now the fan will come on at my set temp, but if the relay fails, it will still come on when the oem fan switch grounds the circuit.
I also readjusted my tv cable, so once i zip tie my new wires out of the way, I will be ready for a test drive to test the fan and transmission.
Here is how it looks right now.

update: we started taking apart the front end.
I found a broken spring and a lot of rusty bolts that had to be cut.

Re: I made a deal for a 92 firebird convertible
well to my dismay, I apparently bought the wrong top. when the doors close they hit the top if the window is up.
I think i got the 52" top, but i need a 51"... I think we are just going to have to live with rolling down the windows when we get in, because i don't have another $700 to throw at a top and I bought this one almost 2 years ago.

Chris

Re: I made a deal for a 92 firebird convertible
more progress. I took a couple of tale light holders and modded them to work with the 1984 transam tail lights...
it only has tale and brake lights in the center 2. the outter is just turn signal. I might mod them again with a dual filiment bulb later. This was a no cost conversion.
don't all the white powder. I have the rear spoiler off to repair it and epoxy the studs. while it is off, i am trying to remove the adhesive and silicone along the deck lid.
Thanks,
Chris

Good work. Keep it up. It's a long and expensive journey, but these convertibles look so damn good when they're done. I have always really liked the Formula hoods.
It took me nearly three years to get my car back in running condition. Now I'm about to remove and replace the entire exhaust system. Dreading getting those exhaust manifold bolts out.
