Thinking of selling...

I have a '92 T/A convertible. Great car. 120k and only 1k on the new 350 motor. 305 is on a stand and goes with it. New interior, completely polished plenum/runners/etc. under the hood. Rebuilt 700r4 with TransGo shift kit. Hooker shorty headers & catback. With a paint job and a top (not necessarily needed) this would be an immaculate show car.

I'm just wondering...where should I even begin on price? It's insured (appraised for insurance purposes) at $14k.

Re: Thinking of selling...

Well the torque from the 350 probably twisted the car so..... I'll fly down and give you $3,000 and drive it home??

I wish.

These cars are becoming rare but I never see nice examples being sold... I feel it would sell for 10k easy. 15k?? Maybe to the right buyer who is ready to out some miles on its reletively new drivetrain. Putting money into a used car rarely and barely raises its value unfortunately. I always say, if I am going to spend, I better enjoy it!

Re: Thinking of selling...

My advice?

DON'T SELL IT!!!

Seriously, you may be a little short on cash/time/space right now but a week/month/year from now, you'll regret it. I've been kicking myself for years now for selling the 'formy. Besides, that's a beautiful car and all the hard work is done. BTW, if your doing this at the behest of a "significant other", dump her instead. No, really. If she can't understand the labor of love/source of pride that car is/means to you, well... My wife, who knows nothing about cars, is my biggest fan.

Re: Thinking of selling...

I have the same car. If it could total it and get 14k I'd do it tonight.

There's 2 around here that have been for sale for years at 5k.
One looks mint, the other has over 5k in just the powertrain.
I passed on both and bought 3 verts total for less then 1 of those and I know watajob didn't pay much either for his.

I say expect 4-6K

Re: Thinking of selling...

Mine was a 2 owner, (now 3), Arizona car with 53K original, verifiable miles, (now 55), I paid $6300 in 2003. Have since put over $10K in it and realize that I might as well have taken it to one of the boats in Joliet and put it on "black" on the roulette wheel... and lost. Our cars aren't collectibles. They're expensive hobbies and nothing more. But, I love 'em and wouldn't have it any other way!

Re: Thinking of selling...

I really think you need to keep it or be completely ok with taking one in the shorts. I don't know why the 92 birds verts don't bring the money like some of the camaros do, but you got too much heart and soul into it now to part ways.

I also think it would fetch better money if it were completly stock, even though we all know how much the mods your performed helped the overall feeling/appearance of the car.

Keep it!

Re: Thinking of selling...

It has nothing to do with space/funds, etc. And the significant other has not mentioned a thing about selling it.

This is just an issue of a car sitting around when it needs to be driven more.

No way would I part with it for a penny less than $10k...and that's if I was really needing to sell, so if it can't bring that, then it stays. Those figures mentioned in this thread are not exactly what I expected for these cars. I guess "rare" has very little effect on value anymore. 665 of these, 550 1991's, and a Camaro brings more $?? Sounds counterintuitive to me.

Just from what I have seen recently since paying close attention to pricing, an apples to apples Camaro to Firebird, the Camaro have been getting more. I personally think that your 1992 T/a vert should fetch over 10k to the right person, and I hope if you make the choice to sell it that you get that or more.

Re: Thinking of selling...

Put it in as many ads as possible for $14,000 obo and see if someone bites. That's win win because you could pocket 10 grand and then go buy one very similar to yours for $4,000... See what I mean..

To the right buyer, $14,000 is pocket change..

Not driving anything will make you want to sell it.. these cars aren't pretty enough to be garage ornaments. driving them makes them worth having.

You should keep it. It is a gorgeous car and you will regret selling it.

BTW could I see an engine bay shot? That chrome Tuned Port Injector looks pretty darn cool under the hood. Not to mention clean.

Re: Thinking of selling...

In 5 years or so they will be antiques and the price should bump about 20% or so. I wouldn't sell that car for 4 or 14. They are just too much fun to drive. What is the rarest option and color combo on a 92?

Re: Thinking of selling...

Keep it. There won't be any cars like it on the road so it will always be a unique car wherever it goes.

If you do try to sell it, my guess the interest for it should start around $7-8K. The problem is people don't know what's good about our cars.
