Re: Just got my vert membership card!

I don't think you ever went into detail with the tach, maybe you did and I missed it, mine turned out to be the circuit board inside the cluster. I replaced it with another one and mine worked. Or it could be as simple as the tach feed wire on the distributor is loose.

In my first post I just stated that the speedo and tach weren't working which isn't entirely accurate. The tach works but reads about 3500 to 4000 RPM'S high. After crawling under the car I discovered that the speedo cable isn't hooked up to the T56. I really don't what I'm going to do about it. I'm not sure what the easiest solution is.

gotcha. not sure about the speedo i would imagine there has to be a way to do it though as street rods use these transmissions too, but the tach is doing what mine was doing. i'd check that circuit card in the cluster.

Re: Just got my vert membership card!

Hey guys, I'm debating on whether or not to put those 113 heads on my Vert. I know I have to elongate the center holes on the intake and block off the EGR but is there anything else? Will my edlebroock headers still work and and with my current setup will the performance gains (if any) be worth it? The car currently has the stock 305 TPI w/ a lt4 hotcam, edlebrock headers, cat delete, smog delete, and a Holley adjustable FPR.

Re: Just got my vert membership card!

Have a look @ this. Pretty sure this crossmember shouldn't be used once you put in a T56! LOL! Can you guys that have swapped in a T56 suggest a good crossmember? One that fits well and won't interfere with future mods, like SFCs. Thanks in advance!

Re: Just got my vert membership card!

On my 91 (t-top) I used a Spohn mount, and it let the trans hang down lower than even factory, and thing was too low for the smallest of speed bumps. I swapped it for an SPD (Skulte Performance Design) twin hump for dual exhaust mount which moved the trans angle back up, and gave me all sorts of ground clearance.

I only have pics of the Spohn mount... I think.

Re: Just got my vert membership card!

The only reason I looked is because I started hearing a thump when I would bang second gear. I noticed that this cross member is twisting and I can move the transmission up and down by hand. So your saying don't buy the Spohn?

Re: Just got my vert membership card!

I sold my Spohn mount. It hung too low. That was my main concern with it, but my car is also lowered 2", so might not be a problem you would have. I would look into a SPD, but not sure he is still making these.

All links to the SPD I'm finding appear to be dead! Any other brands suitable?

Re: Just got my vert membership card!

The 88 has started to take up all my free time, so although it pains me I've decided to give the 89 to my wife. Besides it makes me seem like less of a selfish bastard. It still needs a few odds and ends but its come along way since I pulled it out of the junk yard in January. It still needs a rust free t-top center bar and possibly a brake booster.

Put my rears on it to check the look. I found a set of 2001 Z06 wheels wrapped in F1 rubber for $500.

That poor IROC looks like it's been to hell and back.

Do you know anything about the car before you got it?

Yeah, it belonged to a guy who lives about 30 miles from me. It had a bad oil leak and he ran it like that until he screwed up a wrist pin. He then drove it into the scrap yard, took off the original iroc wheels and sold the car for $350 in November 2011. I found it while hunting parts for my 82 in January 2012. Someone had gotten the column, steering box, grille, fog lights, and blower motor. I've built a 350 for it and replaced everything else except the fog lights. The car is extremely solid and I paid $800 for it which I think is a steal.

Re: Just got my vert membership card!

Hey Badnblk,
It looks like the only cross members available are the Spohn or hawks. While the Hawks cross member allows more exhaust clearance it looks cheaply made. What do you think? Also I had some questions about the pigtails on my T56. You mind if I p.m. You? Thanks.

Re: Just got my vert membership card!

A little taste of what I've been up to. I'm thrashing on it trying to get it done before winter gets here but I keep running into small hangups. I now need to send my pushrods back and order the correct length.

Also I was mistaken about my theory of a bad wristpin. It was a spun bearing allowing the #5 and #6 pistons to make contact with the heads.
