Weatherstripping? Behind A-Pillar

Hi all,

Let me show my ignorance here...I've recently acquired a 92 T/A 'vert, and the car is overall in excellent shape. Which is probably bad for me, because that gives my OCD a chance to run wild and find stuff to worry about.

Specifically, behind the drivers side A-pillar interior trim, there is some sort of a seal/weatherstripping that is very brittle and is breaking. Is this common? Is there an easy fix?

Thanks in advance for the help, loving this site!

Not sure what trim you are asking about. Seals/trim pieces are available but expensive. When are you going to post some pics of your TA?

Re: Weatherstripping? Behind A-Pillar

I think he is talking about the rubber piece that is attached to the windshield A-pillar molding trim piece... its the same on all cars, just cut shorter on the Convertible.

If you find replacement, let us know and I will get some...

Re: Weatherstripping? Behind A-Pillar

I was afraid of that. Seems like it would be terribly hard to find a close match, but I'll probably save it for a winter project.

And I'll get some pics posted soon!

Re: Weatherstripping? Behind A-Pillar

Honestly, if memory serves (without going and looking at it) The piece appears to be an extrusion with double stick tape, It did not appear like a molded piece, so it may be a common piece that just needs tape...

Re: Weatherstripping? Behind A-Pillar

Weatherstrip is of the charts, I just ordered the entire kit for my 91 Z convertible restoration, it was almost $900 for all the parts.

Re: Weatherstripping? Behind A-Pillar

thirdgen ASC's are the most expensive of all Fbody's when it comes to weather stripping.
This is the cheapest I was able to find.. for around the tail lights and interior plastics I'm just going to use some generic weather stripping. Had I found out about this before I ordered the A1 kit.....

it comes in different sizes

If your weatherstripping is causing leaks allowing damaging rain in, then this weatherstrip kit is for you. Why not replace your old, hardened, rotted seal with this new, ready to install weatherstrip set.

That's all the stripping for a vert with the exception of inner and outer window sweeps, the strip that go's across the hood (in front of the gutter) and the strip that go's around the tail lights. You should not need any of these anyway...

ordered my kit for just under $500. it's nice stuff and by far the cheapest that I could find. You may not need all the parts (I had no weather stripping at all), but you can get them separate. Call Tony
