is this a 1984 ASC !!!
Just found this on ebay,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1984-...=p4506.c0.m245
i thought that ASC didnt make convertibles until 1986, the seller says its a z28 but I ran the vin on carfax and the car is a 1984 CHEVROLET CAMARO BERLINETTA,
is it possible that the owner converted this after it became a used car ?

Re: is this a 1984 ASC !!!
lol. I saw that one yesterday and I called the guy on it. the comments I wrote are at the bottom of the page. for 1 the trunk and vert deck are diff. from the 1984 style. for 2 the the ground effects and nose are different from an 84. and apparently he did a history report check and he said it came up as a BERLINETTA!!!! its deff. NOT a berlinetta so i think the vins been swtiched at some point or something.
the only reson I did that is becuase the guy bought the car just to sell it 2 days later and it kind of pissed me off.

Re: is this a 1984 ASC !!!
86 or 87 for the asc
the engine is an l03 so it is impossible for it to be a berlinetta or an '84

88,89 rs vert look @ the interior: shifter, door-panels and seats
dnt know if the guages carry over to 1990 so it might also be a '90
L03 '88, '89 or maybe an '90 RS convertible

Re: is this a 1984 ASC !!!
There have been some 1985 ASC's pre production cars found, first 1984. There are a ton of things with this car that throws up some flags. They have all been mentioned
On a side note, 1986 was the first year for the Friebirds, supposedly only 3 Firebirds were made in 1986...
As for this car, Nothing on the car is right, heck the car may not have even been red to start with. Look at the strut towers, they are painted red, they should be black. The speedomoter is wrong, looks to be from a 1988 - 1989, The Radio looks to be from a later year, definately not a Berlinetta...
The rear plastic panels in the rear look to be legit, as they did use them like that until mid 1991 MY, The back carpet is Black, it should be gray like the front seat carpet.
I guess you could make a list on what is not quite right with the car... My guess is someone took either a wrecked later model vert and converted an 84 over or something similar...

According to the vin the engine is an lg4(8th digit H) not an lo3 as stated above. Also has 91-92 chin spoiler and door/rocker gfx but rear bumper skin is 85-90 style

Re: is this a 1984 ASC !!!
unless the LG4 front ends were different between the Berlinetta and Z28, thats not an 84 engine.
i have an 84 Z28 and the alternator is on the passenger side, ac compressor on the driver.

Re: is this a 1984 ASC !!!
5th digit is an S = Berlinetta
10th digit ia an E = 1984
But the car definitly isn't telling the same story.
Also . . . it appears to be an ASC 1989 conversion style. Note the lack of headliner from the conversions done after '89 and the rear shoulder belts and tonneau cover shoulder belt reinforcment that was a first in '89. This was not done before '89.

Re: is this a 1984 ASC !!!
someone should ask for a picture of the trunklid, it looks like it has the true VIN tag present above the 'vert directions. wonder if that matches???
I can't help but wonder if there is someone out there missing their beloved 1989 asc convertible and what really happened to the 1984 they got the VIN from?
anyone from that area willing to go check it out??

Woah! Hold the phone! A 84? I don't think so!
Wrong interior, wrong ground FX and body color instead of silver too,
wrong wheels, airbag in a 84?, no dual snorkel air cleaner so it ain't a HO !
Edit: Looking again......wrong hood, wrong nose, tailights.
Its a ASC conversion tho and looks good in the pics!

You've stumbled upon an owner that doesn't know much about the car he's selling. Common problem.

I just emailed the seller asking for a picture of the VIN sticker on the trunk lid. Good luck with that.......

Re: is this a 1984 ASC !!!
Shall we place some bets? My money is on 1989 due to the pre'90 dash/interior and post '88 ASC conversion (see my comments above on why). All the other strange idiosyncrasies appear easier to modify.

The VIN decals started in 1987, so it would not match...

Re: is this a 1984 ASC !!!
i would have to agree with iroctoppless on the year of the car i would be willing to bet someone was missing the title title so they stuck the vin tag off the 84 onto it... or they got an 84 and converted it with ALL of the parts from an 89-91 rs car. when did the aero gfx come into play?? '90? is that what the rs dash emblem looked like.obvously not matching the gfx/s definatly at least a couple of different years/cars, parts i woulder if it has the bigger sway bars and quick ratio steering box as a z28 would but then again that too is something that can be changed i wonder if the stickers are as far into the z28 realm as it goes. didn't all of the newer z28 get the tpi? it is a fairly straight looking car though
isn't that a rear window defrost switch

Re: is this a 1984 ASC !!!
i guess from what i understand the ebay car could have been taken to asc independantly by the owner around 1989 and decided to upgrade the body engine etc while he was at it this could be a possibility with this car i think

Re: is this a 1984 ASC !!!
[quote=Iroctopless;4281172]Yeah, why that ride have a VIN that says '84 Berlinetta is really wierd. Anyone out there with a real '84 Berlinetta missing their VIN on the dash?
All I have to say is it better not be my VIN!
and from what i have read convertable camaros were only started in 1987 and that was a very limited number.
Edit: Also... Not even a berlinetta... It would have pods on either side of the steering wheel for lights, turn signals, etc.
also, the radio would be on a swivel stand.

Re: is this a 1984 ASC !!!
the question i believe is not who is missing a vin but who is missing an 89 vert. (hopefully this is just my paranoia)
kristy from breeze's "my new project" thread is missing one https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/conv...w-project.html post 43 but hers was white and an iroc but was an 89 and auto
y conldn't someone file for a lost title or get a salvage title or bill of sale with the original vin number even if the car was totaled i still think u could get it titled with the orginal vin number
what would be the reason for not having the original vin tag is my question? i can think of only one.....

I imagine many of our members have $4000 to throw around... I second that motion. I would like to nominate Iroctopless...
Moving on...
This car is crap, no ifs and or butts about it. If it was a pre production ASC car that would be one thing, the fact that it appears to be a combination of a Berlinetta, an 1988 and a 91-92 I can only assume that this is some sort of conglomeration of parts, cars and pieces to make a single car... it looks good, but that is about it. It is almost like someone had a VIN from a 1984, and they found a rear ended 1992 and a front smashed 1988 Vert, they took the good pieces from each and the VIN from the 1984 and put it together.
Even the engine looks like a 1988-1992, not a 1984...

Re: is this a 1984 ASC !!!
I got a reply back from the seller after I asked for a pic of the VIN inside the truck lid....
Ebay just allerted me this question was unaswered. I forgot I guess because of the rain. I couldn't get a pic and it is difficult to read. I took a pencil over paper and can make out some of the numbers. It doesn't have the same number of digits as the vin and it doesn't look like it matches the vin either or match any vin for that matter. looks like it has some numbers under it too. I just can't quite make it out sorry.
