touch screen stereo in a vert?

I'm posting this here rather then audio section because it more pretains to the vert part.

I am wanting to put a touch screen stereo with 7" screen in my vert. Now, I know when my laptop is in the pass seat, I have problems viewing the screen. I am guessing I will likely have same problem with the stereo?

Anyone installed one of these in a vert and have some feedback on this?

Re: touch screen stereo in a vert?

they should have a tilt feature on alot of them so the screen can be seen at different angles, i know mine does. i dont have a vert but i got t-tops and i have a hard time seeing mine with the tops out untill i tilt the screen where i can see it. specially when the sun is real bright.

Re: touch screen stereo in a vert?

i dont have a touch screen but i do have 2 screens hooked up in my vert. 1 in the radio and 1 on the dash. it is hard to see the one in the radio sometimes because of the sun but one on the dash you can see almost anytime. im saving up for a touch screen flip out. if u are going toget one make sure u get one that is adjustable so u can move it a lil to be able to see. also im worryied that with the flip out screen that it wont open all the way because of the dash change for 91 and 92 sticks out a lil more so make sure u measure out everything before u spend the money on one.. be sure to post some pics up. also its a pain in the *** to get things to stay on the dash because NOTHING STICKS to it and i didnt want to drill holes. so good luck and post some pics. also dont forget an alarm system verts are really easy to breakin to

Re: touch screen stereo in a vert?

The radio I'm looking at is the kenwood kvt719. I emailed asking questions, and they said it does have a tiltible screen.

As for clearing everything, I took a small level, and appears the edge of the screen should clear cluster. If not, I have another ride I can put the stereo in. I'm worried about bumping it with the shifter

For anti theft, yes that is a big worry. The 719 has a detach face, aswell a security code. The car is also parked in a garage every night. My work parking lot is small and I get front door parking and its visible the whole time. So that would cover most of the time. But yes an alarm is on the list!!

Re: touch screen stereo in a vert?

well if it doesnt hit the gauge trim the only problem you might have is that when u start the car the screen comes out it might hit the shifter if u have an automatic.. if u could remember to close the screen everytime u go to shut off ur car that would stop that problem because u would have to hit the button to make the screen come out again but that would be a pain in the ***.

Re: touch screen stereo in a vert?

kenwood kvt719..one of my buddies has that flip out screen kenwood and he loves it. good sound quality. like i said before the tilt screen is the ticket.

what kind of alarm you plan on getting? i found that the autopage is one of my favs. the alarm box on the keychain has a window with a car in it and tells you when a door has been open or left open and all kinds of stuff. i had them in stall relays for the the auto window feature so when i arm the alarm the windows go up and when i unarm it the windows go down if selected, perfect if you are in the house and dont have to go roll them up.

Re: touch screen stereo in a vert?

I had a spal before on my show truck, I liked it.

Ive had some other cheaper ones. Didnt have any extra functions like the spal did.

Id like to talk to your friend about the radio. If you would, see if he would be willing to pass along an email so I could talk to him?

Re: touch screen stereo in a vert?

The car was an auto, converted to manual before I got it. The t5 is TRASHED. Easier to find an auto, I know people to rebuild auto, tune is for an auto. And I just flat get tired of shifting gears. Plus few cuties know how to drive manual Even though I offer to teach.

eyeroc..
1. Ability to see screen
2. USB input, whats biggest size hes hooked up/how many mp3
3. Ease of use/user interface
4. How hard was install since its a 2 piece unit?
5. How hot does the 2nd unit get (ventilation needed?)
6. Does he have sirrus/nav/changer/backupcam/etc hooked up also?
7. How long has he had, any problems?

Thanks!

Re: touch screen stereo in a vert?

I believe my 92 dash is the same as the one in the vert...at least visually it is...not the greatest of pics to see angle but I never have a problem with viewing...however with the top down I can see how it might be an issue...I have tilt on mine, I thought that was standard...

Re: touch screen stereo in a vert?

kris, this unit is a 2 piece unit and the amp setup is what is "remote". I am wondering if under the seat would be enough venting. Then if I have to put it in the "trunk", it gets hot as can be in it.

niterider? Are you full hdtp, or ttop? Looks like it just barely clears the cluster. Any problems hitting shifter?

Re: touch screen stereo in a vert?

i wouldnt want to mount anything under the seat.. i would put it in the trunk if u cant fit it in the dash. it cant be that bad in there cause i had two 1000 watt amps, a spare battery ,40 farat capp and 2 12in kicker subs in the trunk... man u could feel your scalp tingle with that system, and could hear it doing 70mph with the top down. i took it out after my accident. cause the trunk wouldnt shut. lucky nothing broke but the sub box and batter mount.when it hit the tree.. heres an idea for yea. make a mount in the spare tire well that bolts where the tire would and mount ur amps there. i got the idea from another member on here.

Re: touch screen stereo in a vert?

I have a full hdtop and a T Top. The DVD player in the picture is in the hdtop. My unit does not hit anything, shifter or console. And my amp is in the trunk with the subs on top.

thanks niterider

Kris, how did you run all the wires to that? I'm not seeing a spot to run the wires over the back hump where they wont be visible?
