Found 91 Vert but should I ...
Sorry no pics of this car yet. It's sitting in a tow yard with a bunch of other cars. It starts 5.0 t.p.i. Didn't get a look at the mileage but the story is the owner put it in the body shop and then died. Mechanic now has clear title for a $1000.
Needs some work. Paint, body work done but no primer on the car. Top is in tact. Hood missing blisters. Needs back windown. Could not check to see if top worked, etc. Does have the factory CD player and a full set of z28's 16's. All badges in place for the z28. Originally was black with Beechwood / tan interior. Needs complete interior replacement. Fog lites in place, middle trunk spoiler missing. Engine bay had a nest for some type of animal on the drivers side.
Probably would have to sink at least $2000 just to get her to standards, and that's before paint probably.
My question is how rare is this 91 z28 convert? I have no had a vert since the '69 in my sig but would be willing to save her if the car is something special. If not oh well...I will just let the next guy try their luck.

I think the production number was 3,216 or something like that for Z28 convertibles in 1991. It's definitely a rare and sought after car. From the sounds of it, you might be able to offer the guy $800 and steal it. See what he says!

Re: Found 91 Vert but should I ...
I was just telling my wife about my talking with mechanic and of this thread. She likes the car too (projects go better when she likes 'em...lol) ...Now I am thinking of getting it. I am going to take some pics, get a vin and Carfax before I do make a decision. Sure Jeff91RS I would let you know via pmail. I may get some pics today but I am in the middle of wet sanding one of my cars so who knows.

Man, she needs a bit of work, but it seems very salvagable. I would definitely try to get the guy down on his price a bit. Gotta love people who sand a car all the way down, just to let it rot, and people who store cars with the wondows down.
Good luck!

EIther it's growing its own green house in front of the driver seat, or the grass is coming thru where the floor pan used to be?
Now that I see the pictures, I don't think I'd pay more than a couple hundred dollars for it. It doesn't look like much of it is salvagable. Maybe the hood and front bumper (hard to tell how many dents are on the hood with the sanded down primer), the interior is obviously trashed, the spoiler is gone, etc....

Its not a lost cause, but its gonna need a TON of work. Although a 91 vert is def. a car worth bringing back to life.

I don't really need another project but I just hate to see this car doing a slow death. You can tell this car can't take another Illinois winter exposed to the elements. Another concern is if the car is primered and painted how can I be assured that 6 months later..."bubbles" under the paint on't appear.
The floor scares me and takes me to a place I don't want to go. I had promised myself to not buy another thirdgen that needs floorboards. Seeing those baby plants makes me wonder....is it worth it. There is a floor there but how solid would it be once it's dried out. Obviously carpet and under mating along with the seats, door panel are trash. Only thing I would keep is the power seat track and the center console-maybe if there are no cracks. The dash is mint with not one crack. If the radio works it might be worth something if that is the correct factory radio for a '91. With my luck the radio will work but the CD player won't.
Question: Are the tops on these convertables "manual" or is there an electric motor to worry about? I didn't see a switch. Any special problems with the tops that I should know.
Another question: How hard is it to find that center spoiler piece? I assume since it's missing it must have some value and be hard to find.

that is the kind of car you buy because you are going to take everything out of you coupe and want a vert.
that may end up being my next kind of project. but i would not pay 1k for it.

Re: Found 91 Vert but should I ...
yeah I have a interior sitting in my garage. Seems like the kind of car you gut out...but I am worried about RUST. You can't predict how it will rear it's ugly head, esecially with so much of the car being exposed to the element. I think I will offer $250 and if he won't go for it then I will pass. If he sells I will get it home, clean it and then make a decision as to rebuild or part.

There is a switch for the only power part of the roof. That switch is in the pictures above. It activates a solenoid that releases the tonneau cover so you can lift it up. It is the middle switch in the group of three on the console. The other two outside switches (power windows) appear to be hanging out.

I agree with it being a parts car, would cost way more to fix than you could buy a decent one for...trust me I know I am thinking about selling my vert and the market price is not good right now.
Hate to see them go that way, but it was not your fault, curse the people that let it rot and let the ones on here that need parts know where it is so it can live on as an organ donor.

Would take alot to get it back to great shape. But could be a fun project, esp if the wife approves of it
Ive seen worse restored, Ive seen better junked.
If you decide to part it, There are a few parts I would like.

I think its worthy to go see if its got solid floor pans. If their sold, IMO its worth it. If they are rotted, not worth it.

Someone should be shot for leaving a sanded car out in the rain like that.

Re: Found 91 Vert but should I ...
Is that a pot plant growing in the floorboard? Had that happen to me once when some seeds got spilled in the back & then the carpet got wet. Don't know until I vacumed it. Just glad I didn't get stopped while they were there. Honest officer I didn't know a pot plant was in my backseat.

Re: Found 91 Vert but should I ...
The car got sold to somone else. I believe they were trying to restore it but I only met them once. I don't know what happened once they picked it up. I in turn came out better buying a very clean 88 vert with no issues and very showcar ready for $4500. So the wife ended up happy with her vert and this 91 got saved (i hope) from the scap pile. Alls well that ends well.

Thanks. Now that I have a vert I can see how the restoration would be a real pain because parts are not always available. It would be time consuming and a pain. Glad I didn't go that route.
