Subwoofers???????

We all know that our cars have minimal cargo space and very small trunks. With this being said where can I put a put a subwoofer? Is there any thing custom that can be done? Where can I get some info on this. Are there any convertible thirdgens with subs that I can see pics of? Any info on this topic would be helpful.

I temporarily have a box from Wal-Mart, that I just flipped over and stuck it in there. It really was not a very good fit, and didn't look that good either, but it worked for the time being. Hopefully this summer I'll be able to make a box that fits down in the well, instead of sitting in the trunk on top of things. I'd get you a couple pics, but my amp bit the dust, so i took everything out. If you'd like to see them, I can go stick it in there and show you how ghetto is looked.

As soon as I get my cage in I'm going to make a box that goes where the back seats used to be and just bolt it to the floor.

"Stealth Box"

I know that some people have made custom glass and even some MDF boxes that just sit in the little well in the trunk where the lock box would be in a non-vert car. There is limited space there, so you would have to see what kind of volume your particular sub needed, but i have seen it done. REZN8R used to make them and sell them at subenclosures.com, but i believe he was called up to fight in Iraq and his sight is down

I don't have any pics and I no longer have the setup in my car, however, my setup was definately awesome.

In '87 I purchased a GTA vert and immediately ripped out the stereo and such. I had 2 12 inch subs mounted in the trunk and all my amps on the floor of the trunk and still had space to haul things.

An outfit in Florida custom made a triangle shaped box that the 2 subs sat in. The paper part of the speaker faced the drivers compartment and the magnet side of the subs faced the rear bumper(of course). What was so unique was that the peak of the triangle was not closed. It actually had a 2 inch tunnel that connected to the peak and it ran through the back of the car and exited at the rear seats. The convertible still had plenty of room to fold down into the compartment.

If this is hard to imagine I can draw a diagram and scan in it for you.

BTW, it absolutely pushed plenty of base and no rattling whatsoever. If you care, I do still have the car, just not the sub system. I was 18 at the time and that was cool then. Now at 35 alot of base just gives me a headache. LOL

Hope this helps

Joe
