Make sure the car is in park. There are two release handles at the top of the windshield. Flip the handles down and twist the handles around in there respective motions. Behind the driver seat there are two releases. One is a slider switch and one is a sliding handle. Pull the handle to release the rear top section from the tonneau(sp?) cover and flip it up. Slide the switch up, sometimes more than once to release the tonneau from the car. If this does not work, try replacing the fuse. Then grab the front of the top near the windshield and start folding back. I make sure the rear window isn't binding up at all and make sure it's folding in one straight line so I don't get any funky creases in the plastic. After the top is folded up completely, retwist the handles at the front of the top so they point inwards and lower the tonneau cover. Get in car, roll windows down. Final step, pimp yourself.

First lesson: The brand name of the car model is Camaro not Camero.

Second lesson (lowering the top): GM has a couple of safety interlocks to prevent you from lowering the top while moving.
1. You'll first need to set the parking brake and shift the car to "Park" (on an automatic) or "Neutral" (if an manual).

2. Turn the igntion to "Run" position.

3. Lower the side windows at least a couple of inches.

4. Pull the tonneau release lever forward. The switch is located on the left (drivers side) of the tonneau cover. On 1991-92 Model year convertbles there is an electric switch just in front of it, (don't press that one yet, I'll get to that in a moment). Pulling the tonneau release lever releases the pin which holds the rear of the convertible top to the tonneau. You'll see the rear portion of the convertible top raise up a bit from the tonneau.

5. You can now grab hold of the top below the rear window and raise it to it's full vertical position. It will kind of fold against the remaining portion of the top.

6. Now is the time to press that switch (it is called the tonneau release switch) I mentioned earlier that is just in front of the tonneau release lever on 1991-92 convertibles. You'll hear a "pop" as the tonneau latch solenoids fire and release the tneau. (For 1987-90 models the switch is located between the electric window switches, forcing you to duck your head and reach into the car to press the switch.) If the tonneau is in proper adjusment the tonneau will reease and rise up. If one side remains latched press the switch again of give the toneau a slap on the side that has't released.

7. Assure that the tonneau is in it's full vertical position.

8. Lower the rear portion of the top to it's original position. Before lowering the top, make sure there are no items in the top storage area.

9. Pull each top latch handle down and rotate them outboard to release the top from the windshield header.

10. Grasp the font edge of the top hader bow, lifting upward and rearward.

11. Slowly bring the top rearward unitl it is all the way down. Return the latching handles to the closed and stowed position.

12. Lower and latch the toneau cover. Make sure the tonneau cover is latched by gently lifting up on both forwrd edges of the tonneau cover.

If your tonneau cover didn't release when you pressed the tonneau releas switch there are emergency manual release cables that are located behind the rear seats. Lower the seat backs and you'll see the loop of them next to the rear seaback latch. There is one for each side.

Not on my 1991 vert.

But it was built in 03/91.....so I could have inherited some parts from a 1990 convertible ASC was trying to use up. The bastards!

The 1990 model year production ended in 12-89, so I doubt that they were still using up any leftover parts.

What can I say? Maybe I got some parts for the 92 production year. (calling my own).

thanks for the info, lonsal.

Who knows? All I know is that my tonneau switch is on the tonneau cover.

yeah yours was late production so you probably got 92 stuff! I know my 89 RS had 90 wiring in it because it was built in 89. My 91 was built in 90! That could be the difference!!

um , one other thing: when lowering the top , make the top's frame is not rubbing against the tops material, or you will get holes in it . ask me how i know...... some cushions would be a very good cheap insurance policy.
