glass window

hey guys. im replacing my top. i hate the plastic window. it s visibility sux. also, the plastic windows dont usually last long because they are crimped and they tear. i plan on gettting the stayfast top with glass window. how does the glass window fold into the torneau cover??? the plastic one, you have to fold. is the glass window worth getting for my top ? thanks in advance.

also, MODS, i hope you plan to keep this convertible board. It makes us vert guys feel more aquainted.

Well, thats not my car so I can't answer any of those questions. Someone posted a link to the website that I got those pics from on a post within this board.I too want a top with a glass window a la 4th gen. My buddy has a '95 z28 rag and the only problem is that the window is very small and outward visibility is limited with it.

I got mine from topsonline.com and I must say with a good installation it was an excellent move. I didn't put a defroster on it, but I tinted it and it looks great. Compared to a mint plastic one of course you have less visiblity, but it still does the job and after folding it down a couple of times you get how to do it.

I looked into getting a glass window when I got my top. I forget the extra cost but it was considerable but not so much that I would not have done it If I weren't already spending so much money on other things for the car at the same time.

Your post asked about dealing with the glass when the top goes down. My understanding is that the glass unzips from the top and lays in the bottom of the topwell. The top is then folded back on top of it.

The glass in the picture above doesent unzip. Its much smaller than the rear stock plastic window, which lets it fold down with the top. You just have to be careful when doing it.

Hey that purple camaro is my car.. and thank you for using that pic i lost it and was trying to find it around here and i finally did.. I definatly recomend the glass top easier to keep clean dont have to wory about it turning yellow or anything.. you can also hook up the defroster to it.. i still havnt done it b/c im away at school right now. but the top works great no leaks or anythings. after i first installed it i was a little shakey with the way it went down but it works fine no problems at all... The glass also keeps the car a bit warmer in the winter too.

Re: glass window

Sorry to bring this old thread back, but nobody asked about the elephant standing in the room... never mind the top (there are many vendors that sale them... almost all are resellers for EZ)..

Where in the world did you get the defroster???

Re: glass window

Lots of places (like this . . . http://www.frostfighter.com/prt2600.htm) sell kits for any size window. A friend of mine here in the great white north put one in. The biggest challenge was running the wires for a folding roof. Be sure to avoid any pinch points. He ran the wires in the thinnest black wire loom that fit around the wires. This made them look factory and provides some limited protection. Then the loom was secured along the roof's frame using stratgically place black zip-ties and black screw clamps (using existing factory screw locations) and run down to the where the main hinge meets the car. From there the wires meet up with some factory wires and continued down behind the trim, under the carpet, along the door sill and up behind the dash. Where you put the switch is up to you. Maybe behind a blank factory switch cover, etc. He hooked it up to an ignition activated power source to prevent a dead battery should he forget it was turned on.

Re: glass window

PS; Although the wires can be applied to the inside of the glass anytime, if you're putting on a new roof, it's a little easier before installing the roof.
