how many "steps"?

How many "steps" are there supposed to be involved with the fast idle cam. It's a stock 86 LG4, electric choke, CC Qjet. I assume when cold, press the throttle to reset, that is the first "step". So as the car warms up, the choke releases tension on the fast idle cam, the cam starts to drop and the cam follower engages the next step. So how many times is the fast idle cam supposed to drop? or How many "steps" are there?

Updated: Well I took the carb off the car and studied the mechanism. There are 3 "steps" on the fast idle cam. But can someone verify for me that the the fastest idle in fact is the second step. In other words, if the choke has full tension and you move the throttle, the fast idle cam will move/reset to the second step (not the first step as I previously thought).

Thanks in advance.

3 steps. The BOTTOM step is when it switches over to the regular curb idle screw. It should move up to the higest step when the choke is fully closed and STAY THERE even after the engine starts and the pull-off opens the choke slightly. After a little running it should drop to the intermediate step and then on down to regular idle a few minutes after that.

If yours doesn't do this you need to bend (yes, BEND) the choke plate pushrod until everything lines up where it needs to be.
