High idle A/C relay ?

High idle A/C relay ?
Winter is going away and I took the chance to take the car for a spin and put some gas on the tank as well as washing it.
Haven't driven the car much since buying it, but I have noticed that it often idles at 1200-1300 rpm which I thought to be quite high.
Discovered that it drops to approximately 700 when I turn off the A/C, but since it still is 0 degrees celcius and occasionally ice outside I was surprised. Didn't think it should do that until the outside temperature was higher.
Must also admit that I don't know whether the A/C system is pressurized or not.
Is this normal behaviour ? I feel I have an A/C fast idle relay kicking in when it should not.

you can adjust the amount of fast idle 'bump' from the relay by screwing in/out the little plunger.

What would the normal fast idle speed be.....think it is a bit high now, but maybe it is correct at 1200-1300 RPM?

it's a compromise between enough idle speed bump to compensate for the AC compressor drag and keeping the throttle slightly open during decel to reduce emissions.
set it where your motor likes it.
