Q-jet TPS?

I知 swapping carburetors. Currently I have the stock Q-jet on a mild built 355 we did last year just to finish setting up engine to run and get it home for the winter. I知 going with a street demon carb. Now I can buy a TPS for the demon. My question is do I need it? We do have the 700r4 auto tranny.

Re: Q-jet TPS?

Unless you also get rid of the computer controlled distributor, you need the TPS to help meter fuel.

And.......... your Demon carb does not have the MCS - Mixture Control Solenoid to meter the fuel. And NO, it can't be added.

Re: Q-jet TPS?

I actually ran a non-computer carb (Holley spreadbore DP) with the computer controlled system many years ago. I rigged up a TPS to the primary throttle arm and ran it with the computer distributor. Interestingly it would set a lean code when cruising at about 40 MPH from time to time. But otherwise it controlled timing and TCC lock-up like it did with the computer carb.

Not saying I recommend it, but it is possible to do.

Re: Q-jet TPS?

We are eliminating all electronic stuff. Bought a msd hei distributor and putting street demon on without the tps add on. It痴 only needed if you have computer controlled tranny like in gen 4痴. It is nice that it has a idle kick up that can be added for the a/c.

Re: Q-jet TPS?

Very simple, then. If you have a non-computer distributor, you don't need a TPS.
