In tank fuel pump sending unit

Hey guys. I keep killing my external electric fuel pump, and have decided to go with an electric in-tank pump.
Questions:

Are the fuel tanks all the same from every year?

What sending unit/pick up would I need? My car is a Canadian car and has no computer.

What fuel pump would be recommended to keep up with a 435 hp Qjet car?

Thanks

Why do you keep going through external fuel pumps?

I have used a Holley "RED" electric fuel pump for 8 years without a single problem. I use the "RED" pump because it is regulated to 5-7 psi right out of the pump. No need for an extra external fuel pressure regulator.

I agree with this.
"External pumps don't last". What's the problem ? Do you have a filter in front of the pump first ? Is there junk inside the failed pump to show signs of crap from the tank ?
Why make life more difficult with an in tank pump ?

Re: In tank fuel pump sending unit

I never ran a pre filter.....I just finished installing a pre filter with a Walbro external. Let's see how it goes this time.
I also wonder if my ground is good enough.
Thoughts on running a ground wire right to the battery instead of a chassis ground?

As far as the ground. If all your body/engine grounds are in place, just make sure the ground to the pump is clean and protected from weather. No need to go to battery.
What model Walbro pump ?
If you want to go one step further, you can always add a relay to operate the pump.

Re: In tank fuel pump sending unit

This one from Holley (it's a relabeled Walbro)
https://www.holley.com/products/fuel...s/parts/12-927

Hopefully it supplies enough fuel.
If not, I might try a Walbro 255 and see if my regulator will dial the pressure down...

Re: In tank fuel pump sending unit

That pump makes more pressure than a Q-Jet can handle. You will need a pressure regulator with it. Carbs only take maximum 7 psi to them. Find out if that pump has an internal relief, as too much back pressure can cause it to burn out/overheat.
It does look like a straight up vane pump. A Holley pump is a vane style but has a relief in it.
Here's one using no regulator. Also look on different sites for a lower price.
