Tbi to carb full swap issues

350 at 30 0ver. Decked Dome pistons Roller Cam 292 512 ported 64 heads g team intake Holley 750 carb basic info

This car was a tbi 88iroc did the full carb swap with new motor.
I have 9 psi going to carb. Using intank pump.
Anyways she runs nice vary choppy because of cam. When I'm just driving she runs nice but it I let her go she falls bad.
I can power her to 3000 rpm no issues but when I go she bogs out and sometime stalls.
I tried 6 to 12 psi to carb still same.
I pulled carb and the vacuum secondary is hard as hell to open. I don't know carbs but is it supposed to be that hard to open?

Re: Tbi to carb full swap issues

Too much fuel pressure will push the needle from the seat. Try dialing it down to about 5 psi.

I'd agree with dropping fuel pressure. 6 psi should be more than enough. The vacuum secondaries should open easily by hand. Sounds like they might be sticking. I'd also recommend putting a vacuum gauge in, even just temporarily, and see what your vacuum is at idle, during acceleration, and when you let off. That will give you a good idea if the secondaries are sticking.

Fp is at 6 psi. I pulled the rod off the secondary blades and they still won't open easy I have to put a flat head in there to make the open. I truly don't think any type of vac will open them unless it makes about 30 lbs.
Like I said I don't know carbs all new world to me

This is off topic but would like to know. How much torque can the car take before she bends up.
When I did a test run with my friends 750 carb she pulled hard as hell now my driver side door rubs bad and won't close right

Re: Tbi to carb full swap issues

If its a rusted out car then anything might happen when you add more power. My floor-pans were rusted out and where giving me problems with the stock 305 that I swapped out long ago. I noticed the car would kinda dog track when I shifted hard at WOT but it wasn't the tires breaking loose. I removed all carpet and went for another test drive. I could see the frame rails move during hard shifting because floorboards were rusted out badly. I cut and replaced the problem rust areas and added bolt in sub frame connectors for added strength. Solid as a rock for now but I'm always on the hunt for a rust free car that I can start all over with.

Re: Tbi to carb full swap issues

Disconnect the rod from the vacuum diaphragm and try opening them again. If the move easily, your problem is in the vacuum diaphragm assembly(sticking, or massive spring). If they are still hard to open, the shaft on the butterflies is bent or sticking. Mine open just as easily by hand as the primaries. Dumb question, but you don't have the throttle return spring hooked to the secondary arm do you?

Re: Tbi to carb full swap issues

Thanks I will look in to sfc. She has vary little rust what rust I have is on the floor.
Was thinking about welding up some box tubing . May have to do that anyways to straighten it up if it flexed.

Yes with Rod discounted it's vary hard to open or close.
It don't look bent. Know how I can remove the blades and rod?
I may have to get a new carb.

Re: Tbi to carb full swap issues

Holley's web site has rebuild instructions you can download for free. Get the ones for your carb and they will show you how to remove them. They may just need cleaning.
