Car cranks stops then continues to crank
Not sure if this is an electrical or carb question so if needed to be moved please do.
Ok heres what Ive done to the car. It was originally a '89 rs tbi that a friend swaped a 350 into. tbi never ran right due to the needing more fuel so i swaped it to carb. put a warrior intake with a standard holley carb, 600 cfm, along with a holley fuel pressure regulator with the a return. as of now it cranks stops and is a pain to crank again. Intially i thought that it was hydrolocking due to the intake fuel pump putting to much pressure on the carb pushing excess fuel. turned the key to run and looked at the carb, and theres no blow by throught the sprayers. after that i cranked it one last time just to see and it cranked until i gave it a little fuel to start it. so i figured timing. turned the distributer back and tried again and nothing changed. any ideas would be helpful. tomorrow im going to try to unplug the distributer and crank it to see if that helps.
Also: car has a brand new battery and never had an issue before with starting.

You might have it 180 out. You could pull the distributor and start over. Bring #1 up to top dead center on the compression stroke. Then replace the distributor with the rotor pointing at #1 on the distributor cap and give it a try. Double check the spark plug wires for correct orientation.

When you swapped out the TBI, you MUST replaced the distributor with a non-cc distributor with vacuum advance or the car will never run right. The CC Distributor is expecting signals from the ECM which is cut off from TBI unit that you removed and it's confused. It can't control the timing properly now.

Just pick up a HEI distributer , set your unadvanced timing to around 10° advance hook your vacuum advance hose back to the ported port on your carb and see how she runs. Then you can fine tune it from there. Mine runs best around 12.5-13° of timing. Hope this helps you. You can also run your factory tach off the HEI distributer as well.
Hope this helps you.
Hope this helps you.

Re: Car cranks stops then continues to crank
Thanks for all the help. It was indeed the timing. Poped the driver valve cover off just to double check i was tdc on 1. Turned out that the distributor was to far retarded and was causing it. I appreciate the advice on what it could have been.
