How did you run your fuel line?

My car was an original CFI car that the previous owner put a 350 carb in. I do realize that all the lines (including fuel) was ran on the driver side. As an alternative the previous owner decided to run the fuel line over the transmission in the tunnel (fuel pump on passenger side), which honestly I don't like to awful much. I just bought some new 25 ft aluminum fuel line, does anyone have any ideas of how they ran it?

Re: How did you run your fuel line?

if you run it over behind the trans your in more danger of the drive shaft taking it out if it lets go. i dont see the trans tunnel being bad in a non-racing application. alot of vehicles are made from gm that way

I can agree and understand that, but I was intially thinking about running it in front of the radiator like the late model power steering pump hoses ran. Good idea or bad? Can run down pas side cause my duals run too close to subframe

That is how I ran mine all the way to the front on the drivers side then across under the rad support and back a little to the fuel pump.

The factory ran it across the car right at the firewall. Not exactly "over the transmission"; more nearly like, over the bell housing bolts. A good protected spot, out of most of the heat, eezy to attach.

I don't like that because I'm a safety fanatic. Front end collision or even a parking stop might put you up in flames.

My Camaro was a factory V6 car, which had the fuel pump on the driver side of the engine, so the fuel lines went up the driver side of the engine compartment. When I put the V8 in (which was before I ever drove the car...), I ran a braided 3/8" line from the factory supply line, across the front of the K-member, over to the mechanical fuel pump. I ran a 5/16" rubber line back along the same route for the return. I drove it that way from the time I got it running in August, 1999, until I pulled the SBC for an LS1 swap in July, 2010. I never had any problems with vapor lock, something hitting the lines, etc. I did put a couple of tie wrap supports on the front of the K-member to hold them in place.

Re: How did you run your fuel line?

My 84 TA has the fuel lines cross over in the back of the car and they run up the passenger side of the trans tunnel, coming out on the passenger side frame rail.

If your wanting to make it look original you can buy the fuel line, the return line and the vapor recovery line for your charcoal canister from classic industries. They are prebent one piece metal lines that will rout them up the passenger side of the car like its supposed to. I think they were like $60 but it should fix your problems. Just search your year carbureted camaro or TA and it should come up.

Re: How did you run your fuel line?

They don't run up the passenger side of the car.

They run up the driver's side of the tunnel (in fact lots of people tie-wrap their speedo cable to them), over the tunnel just behind the firewall to where the "frame" part of the chassis meets the firewall below the evap housing, and then along the pass side of the "frame" in the engine compartment.

If you buy pre-bent lines (a VERY good idea IMO) for a carbed car, that's how they'll be designed to route; in the factory path.
