Pinesol as carb dip works awesome!! - PICS INSIDE!

I read on a motorcycle forum that some people use pine-sol to clean their carbs. With berrymans chem dip now costing $30 for 1 gal, I got the same amount of pinesol for just $8. I soaked the carburetors in pine sol topped off with water overnight and then brushed over with a toothbrush. Then I rinsed them off with the hose, dunked in some diesel fuel to keep the corosion off, drained for a bit then wiped clean with a rag.

Yup I have done it a few times. Old trick I have used on may motorcycles.

BTW berrymans is about $15 at walmart.

The look good, now take them apart.

you are able to keep the plastic stuff on with the pinesol? that dip eats it. looks like you found those in a pile of dirt or something, lol but did an amazing job though cleaning it. might use this trick on my atv, but there is a bunch of plastic on it that is a pain to put back together

This is something I will try. Did you soak them overnight?

Re: Pinesol as carb dip works awesome!! - PICS INSIDE!

Yes, soaked for about 15 hours total. I didn't even really have to brush them at all. When I pulled them out in the morning they were already clean like that for the most part.

OH AND THIS IS SAFE ON RUBBER DIAPHRAMS AND PLASTIC PARTS!. I soaked a motorcycle carb for somebody earlier today and it came out fine!

DISCLAMER! THIS DOES APPEAR TO AGGRESSIVELY REMOVE THE FINISH IF THERE IS ONE. Not a problem in my case as they were already goofed but it does appear to remove a dichromite zinc finish.

I wouldn't worry about the finish, Kyle. Regular carb-dip can take it off, too. Usually it's mostly gone before you dip it, you just can't see that it's gone with all the gunk and crud on top of it.

BTW- I like your front float adjustment gasket. Might want to replace that with the proper one.

I have seen my dad use this trick too back in the day. Man it really made my mom mad when she went to clean the floors and all the pinesol was gone lol!

Wow that is one oooold 600. Script on the float bowls was from way back. Just gave away 4 or 5 of those.
Now throw some carb kits on them and hit ebay!

409 is another real good cleaner
