Would you rather spend $50-$75 more for a regulator, or replace $125 in-tank pumps every few months?

That Holley regulator is the wrong thing for this application. The in-tank pump requires a constant flow of fuel to keep it cool.

Get a return-style regulator like a Mallory 4309 (more expensive) or Jegs 555-15909 (less expensive but adequate). That means you'll be using the return line again. That should stop the leak.

no, you have to have a return style regulator. is completely different internally then the non return style.

Re: 92 need fuel return help

the other option is to drop the fuel tank, remove the intank electric pump, replace it with a carb style pick up, and run a block mounted manual pump.

Sorry man, those guys are right. Doing it right can become a hassle, but it's much better than having to spend alot of money later to replace stuff, especially fuel pumps which are a pain in the rear in general.

i have a holly red pump with a regulator. the intank pump is fried. So using the holly with the reg. Do i need to use the return line? a buddy of mine told me i could (tee) off the feed line with the return line so i dont burn my pump up. is this fact or fiction?i was also told when i take the intank pump out i have to modify the sending unit somehow.

I would run a return, just to be safe. Electric pumps like the fuel returning as it creates a "Flow" in the tank which cools the fuel. I personally burned up 2 of the Holley red pumps and one Holley Black pump and I had the return hooked up. I scrapped them for the in-tank pump because I don't trust them to last more than a month or two. It was an expensive lesson.

you still need to drop the tank and remove the intank pump to run the external holly pump. and you still have to use the return style regulator unless the pump has a built in regulator. to keep from burning the pump up.
