mallory 4309 newby

what fittings do i need or can get from advance auto to make my 89 305tbi > 355 vortec carb fuel lines work so I can use the NEW tbi fuel pump that I just had put in 3mo ago. if someone can I need the names of the fittings and sizes the 305tbi was stock. and the carb i'm trying to use is an edelbrock 1411 with elect. choke. PLEEZ HELP!!! part numbers would be helpful I know that I have to use the braided steel fuel hose.

Re: mallory 4309 newby

Fittings on the Mallory are all 3/8" NPT thread. Original fuel lines are 3/8" on the feed line, 5/16" on the return line. The fittings where the stock flex line screws onto the hardline down on the frame are NOT NPT. I forget what they are- somebody will chime in with that, I'm sure.

The Eddy carb comes stock with a rubber hose nipple fitting. I think they sell a direct-connect AN fitting to replace the stock rubber hose fitting but I've not gone looking for one so I can't say for sure.

Re: mallory 4309 newby

maybe i just too needy but I wanted to be able to find this info in one place so maybe nobody will get mad at me:

ok so lets see if i can make this sound the way I have it drawn out> I had this question and I know that alot of other rookies do also so I have actually sat down and drew this out but since I dont know how to put my drawing on the site I will have to try write out what I have done. This is the complete parts list coming from Summit racing to take you from metal hard lines on stock tbi car to the carb and back to the return line. If there is something that I have missed or have wrong please chime in I do respect experience.

Feed hard line:

attach to the hard line a Earl's Performance 9894DBHERL then a
Summit Racing SUM-220687 then attach about a foot of
Summit Racing SUM-220984 that will go to the mallory 4309 and have at the end of it a
Summit Racing SUM-220690 which goes to
Summit Racing SUM-220648 that screws directly into the side holes in the regulator
out of the other side hole you attach another Summit Racing SUM-220648
to a Summit Racing SUM-220690 then a piece of Summit Racing SUM-220984
just enuff to get you close to the carb then you need Summit Racing SUM-220690
and attached to it a Aeroquip FBM2183 for your pressure gauge after that you need a
Fragola Performance Systems 960001 then a Fragola Performance Systems 180106
then the final pc of hose Summit Racing SUM-220984 this should put you right at the carb then you need a Summit Racing SUM-220690 screwing onto a Earl's Performance 991941ERL

return hard line:

attach to t he hard line a Earl's Performance 9894DBHERL then a Fragola Performance Systems 496206 which is going to attach directly to the regulator with the last Summit Racing SUM-220648 total for everything $182 shipped to door

now this is to connect the return port which on the very bottom of the regulator directly to the RETURN HARDLINE on the drivers side frame rail. If you mount yours in a different place your parts list may differ. Remember I am not perfect if I made a mistake then please feel free to correct me thx. if your regulator has 4 side holes then just use a
Summit Racing SUM-G1487B-1 to plug it and don’t forget the teflon tape to seal use enuff hose remember the motor has to MOVE!

TGO moderators I hope I did not overstep my boundaries and again thank you

Re: mallory 4309 newby

You want a 3/8" NPT fitting on regulator to 3/8" Nipple for the feed line from the tank. You then want the same for the feed line from the regulator to the carb (since carb already has nipple on it). You then want a 3/8" NPT to 5/16" nipple for the return line on the bottm. Plug all the rest of the holes on the regulator.

Hard line on frame rail - rubber line - 3/8" NPT/Nippee adapter on regulator. Nipple adapter on regulator - carb connector. All using rubber 3/8" hose and clamps.

Use a 3/8" NPT to 5/16" nipple out of the bottom to the return line.

I'll see if I can get some pictures of mine to show you how my set up is.

Re: mallory 4309 newby

kool, if you can get pics plzz let me know, your setup is crazy inexpensive compared to mine that will help me out. I thought that my way was about the only way. is rubber hose and double clamps just as safe as the steel braided lines and all the special fittings?

With the regulator, even though your pump is capable of pushing 255 litres per hour, or whatever it's rated at, it's only pushing 5-6psi, so the rubber hoses and clamps works just fine. If you had upgraded to fuel injecttion, you'd need to find a way to do high pressure fittings which, if you do a search, some people on the web site have done.

Re: mallory 4309 newby

10-4 I am using a tbi fuel pump at 14-16 psi but it sounds like I will be fine using the high pressure rubber fuel line and double clamps instead of the high dollar AN stuff. thanx I appreciate the advice I just went from $182 down to about $35 thanx man.

I have rubber hoses and clamps from the hard lines to the regulator. However, I have got the AN adapter for the carb so I am running a steel braided line from the regulator to the carb. If I could figure out how to run a steel braided line down to the barbed steel line on the frame rail, I would.
