false SES light after carb to TPI swap
Hi guys,
I swapped my computer controlled carb for TPI a while back and have a false SES light (A SES light with no codes stored in the ECM). I decided a while back that maybe something was wrong with the ECM and have been living with it.
Ok fast forward 5 years- I was helping a guy work on his 83 Camaro that had been converted from a computer controlled quadrajet to a Holley Dominator. I noticed that his SES light was on and thought i would fix it for him. I pulled the connectors out of his ECM and removed the ECM. To my surprise, the SES light remained on. I disconnected the other two connectors off the harness (the one that patches in the VSS ect.) and the light was still on.
So, from what i have observed here, there must be something else in these cars that can set a SES light besides the ECM. I still have some remnants of the old carb wiring in my car( the wiring that passes into the driver side bulk head connector)- i think that something in that old harness must have the ability to set the light. Do you guys have any ideas where to start? I think it may be like and idiot light for a sensor i disconnected?
