Choke problem??
I have an E4ME CCC on my 87 Camaro and I can't get the choke to work right. I bought a new electric choke unit and installed it and I shut it when it was cold out this morning and adjusted it to where I could start my car and it would run without dying. The problem is the choke wouldn't open, not even after driving the car for 20 or so minutes. The choke is definitely warmed up, and as soon as I pushed the "fast idle cam?" in with my finger the choke sprang completely open. At least I think that's the fast idle cam. What could this be?

To get a choke up and functioning properly is actually very easy ( assuming all your linkage is hooked up properly and/or not all bent up...). This is how I've always done it and never had a problem;
On a cold engine, loosen the three screws on the choke housing. Rotate the plastic choke cover untill the choke flap on top of the carb is totally shut. Tighten the 3 screws back up. Now when you hit the gas pedal on a cold engine before you start it, the choke will be 100% closed.
Now press in the 'arm' of the front choke pull-off all the way in. Doing this should make the choke open up a little bit ( should be about an 1/8" or a little more ). If it's opening more than this, less than this, or not opening up at all, just adjust the pull-off ( with a screw driver ) untill it allows the choke to open about an 1/8" when the arm is pressed in ).
Adjust fast idle to whatever your engine likes best.
You should now have a properly functioning choke. If you think the choke 'turns off' too quickly before it's warmed up enough, just loosen the 3 screws on the choke housing and rotate it CCW to tighten it up a little. If you think it runs a little rough once it starts up, try adjusting the choke pull-off untill you get the choke to be cracked open the right amount for your engine.
Others may have a different method, but what I mentioned above has always worked for me, is very easy to do, and should only take you a couple minutes.
P.S. It is possible you can't rotate your choke cover on the choke housing because there is a 'nub' cast into the housing and a small notch in the plasic choke cover which means you can only put it on one way. Just make sure the spring tab on the choke cover hooks the tab inside the choke housing.

I followed your instructions and the car ran GREAT for about 2 weeks. My starting idle was 2200 rpm, though and I wanted to lower it so I adjusted the fast idle down to 1700 and the car started running like crap. It sputters and dies, and now the choke isn't opening itself. I still have power to it. What could be going on?

Well I found the problem but I'm not sure how to fix it. My choke power wire works fine when the key is on but as soon as you start the car the wire loses power so the choke won't open. Anyone know what would cause this?

Using a test light connected to the negative terminal on the battery I've found that I have power to the choke wire until I actually connect it to the choke, as soon as I connect it it dies. I don't understand that.
