87 LG4 Fuel pump?

sorry if this information is elsewhere on the board or if this is in the wrong section, but i didnt find anything in my search. ok, i have an 87 z28 with the lg4 engine, and i know there is an electric fuel pump in the tank and that it runs at 3 psi. is it the same design pump, or just same pump as a tpi in tank pump and just a different pressure regulator? short story long here is im doing an ls6 swap soon and i want to know if a racetronix walboro pump will fit in there (as they are designed for the tpi) or if i would have to do something else to make it work. thanks for any help you might have.

Re: 87 LG4 Fuel pump?

I don't know about the Walboro/regulator route, but I did replace the in-tank and mechanical (block mounted) pumps in my 87 LG4 car with direct replacements. Getting the right parts from Summit was not simple.

The correct Summit part numbers are:
CRT-P74050 - Carter Electric Fuel Pump
CRT-M6626 - Mechanical fuel pump

If you get the wrong (TPI) electric fuel pump, it will shoot fuel all over the place, and ruin the mechanical pump (ask me how I know). Also, you will probably need a small length of in-tank fuel line. I picked this up from Napa, I think it was about $25. I can give you the part number if necessary.

A TPI pump in the tank should work fine. Lots of people have converted their TPI to carb with nothing more than an M6626 on the block.

There's a regulator in the pump.

Re: 87 LG4 Fuel pump?

thanks for the replies guys. i knew that the lines go to the passenger side rather than the drivers side on the tpi and i wasnt sure if internally everything hooked up the same but if two-if-by-sea can accidentally put a tpi pump in there i should be ok. thanks!

Are you trying to get the carb'd engine running, or looking ahead to the LS6 swap?
