Possible gasket issue

I have been having some trouble with the idle not coming down after the engine is at operating temp. Sometimes it hovers at 1100, then slowly comes down to 700ish.

I sprayed the carb down w/ carb cleaner, inside and out. The problem seems to have improved somewhat, but I noticed on the passenger side when I sprayed the cleaner, the idle went up. Maybe a gasket is the problem. It's on the passenger side of the carb, not where the carb meets the manifold.

It is a quadrajet BTW.

Any help would be appreciated.

maybe there are two different problems... choke and an air leak of some kind. I'd suggest looking at the choke problem first. If you unplug your electric choke does it make it worse by really taking a long time to warm up and idle staying up even longer, or no change with electric choke unpluged?

Re: Possible gasket issue

I'll unplug the electric choke this weekend and see what happens. After a good thorough cleaning w/carb cleaner, it seems to be doing ok. It's a pretty good running carb other than the problem I brought up. I have a hesitation when I accelerate, and a flat spot.

I am suspect the hesitation may be exacerbated by a vacuum leak.
