I dug an 86 Trans am out of a field that its been sitting in for 10 years.

Starts right up, runs like a charm when warm, but I have a few problems.

The choke won't work. I would say its a vacuum line probably, does anyone have a line diagram?
My cruise control doesn't work. It feels like it tries to but it just can't seem to keep it. This is also vacuum related isn't it?

The original CC distributor is out of the car, and is being run off a vacuum advance one for the moment, without the vacuum advance hooked up lol (don't know where to hook that up at)
But it runs great, and accelerates like noneother.
I'd just like to get another problem or 2 sorted out on it.

The only thing vacuum related to the choke is the vacuum break (aka, "choke pull-off"). When cold and before started, the choke butterfly should be completely closed (after the throttle is opened slightly to allow the fast idle cam to be engaged). Right after starting, the choke pull-off should open the butterfly slightly. As the engine warms up, the electrically heated choke thermostat should open the butterfly the rest of the way.

The engine can't possibly operate properly with a computer controlled carb and non-computer distributor (nor will the cruise control). Get a proper distributor in there as soon as possible. The Service Engine Soon light should be coming on and staying on with a vacuum distributor.

Really?? So my CC distributor could solve all my problems? I never would have thought. You're right, it does come on and the only code it throws is a code 12 which in this case would be because of the missing distributor, correct?

Well I put it back in and timed it and the car runs better, but it didn't solve my cruise issue. I also adjusted the choke on the carb some, but I think maybe it needs a thermostat. Any other ideas, Kid?

Hey awesome I had a similiar problem with the cruise. Get a hold of the car's schematics. My brake switch was on its way out. A new one fixed that.

It wouldn't come on because of your brake switch? Wheres that located?

On your brake peddle under the dash. there is a 3/8 vacuum hose run thru the firewall, these sometimes crack like all rubber lines and people forget that its there and just blame the cruise itself thus removing all traces of it. and yes the switch gets hammered from frequent brake use.
