replacing carb on 86 trans am
I Have an 86 trans am with a 305 and one of those computer controlled carbs, I was thinking about swapping it with a holley 650 dbl pump that is vaccum controled with elec choke instead of the computer one which is given me nothing but trouble. Will this work?

Re: replacing carb on 86 trans am
Welcome to TGO.
It's not as easy as just swapping the carb. The computer also controls the ignition and torque converter lockup so the dist will have to be swapped for a mechanical one and an alternate means of locking the converter will have to be installed.
Swapping to a different carb will not gain you any performance over a properly functioning q-jet unless your engine is pretty wild. You can rebuild the q-jet yourself, send it off or purchase a rebuilt one.
It may not even be the carb. What particular problems are you having?
